Bolt vs Lovable (2026): Which AI App Builder Should You Choose?
Bolt vs Lovable in 2026: both start at $25 a month, Bolt meters 10M tokens, Lovable 100 credits plus 5 a day. Free tiers, rollover, teams, who should pick which.

Pick Lovable if you are not a developer and want a working web app with database, login and hosting from a chat window: Pro is $25 a month for 100 credits plus 5 build credits a day. Pick Bolt if you want to see and edit the code as it is written: Pro costs the same, metered in 10M tokens, and the free plan refills 300K tokens daily. Prices read on both vendors' pages on October 17, 2026.
The two products charge the same sticker and meter completely different things. Bolt counts tokens, so a large project costs more per message because the model re-reads your files. Lovable counts credits per request, so a small edit costs a fraction of a credit and a landing page costs more than one. Which meter suits you decides this matchup more than any feature list.
An AI app builder is a tool that turns a plain-language description into a deployed web application, with the front end, backend and hosting generated and wired for you. Toolradar data: the application development platforms ranking we publish evaluated 157 tools, updated October 2026, and Lovable sits in its top picks. The product records are Bolt and Lovable on Toolradar, Toolradar's own Bolt vs Lovable sheet carries the feature grid, our Lovable pricing page has every credit tier, the developer-side tools live in best AI coding assistants, and best AI automation tools covers the workflow layer around an app.
At a glance
| Question | Bolt | Lovable | Who wins |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who it is built for | People comfortable reading code, or who want to | Non-developers who want the app, not the code | Split by the buyer |
| First paid plan | $25 a month, 10M tokens | Same price, 100 credits plus 5 a day | Tie on price |
| Free tier | 300K tokens a day, 1M a month | 5 build credits a day, 30 a month, 20 Cloud credits | Bolt, for daily volume |
| What the meter counts | Tokens the model reads and writes | Credits per request, sized by the job | Lovable, for predictability |
| Unused allowance | Rolls one extra month, valid two months total | Monthly plan credits roll over while the plan is active | Tie |
| Second person on the project | A paid Teams seat per member | Unlimited workspace members on every plan, including Free | Lovable |
| Custom domain | Pro | Pro | Tie |
| SSO and audit controls | Enterprise, custom quote | Business, on a published price | Lovable, because it has a list price |
| Refunds | None, per the terms of service | None, except where the law requires | Tie |
Both vendors sell the same promise, a deployed app from a prompt, and both hide the real cost in the meter rather than the sticker. The sections below follow the money.
What you actually pay
| Plan | Price | Allowance | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bolt Free | $0 | 300K tokens a day, 1M a month, resets on the 1st | Public and private projects, 10MB uploads, hosting, up to 333K web requests, databases |
| Bolt Pro | $25 a month, yearly billing saves up to 28% | Starts at 10M tokens a month, no daily cap, larger bundles at checkout | Bolt branding removed, 100MB uploads, up to 1M web requests, custom domains, rollover |
| Bolt Teams | $30 a month per member | Same tokens per member, not shared | Central billing, team access management, private NPM registries |
| Bolt Enterprise | Custom quote | Custom tokens | SSO, audit logs, account manager, 24/7 priority support |
| Lovable Free | $0 | 5 build credits a day up to 30 a month, 20 Cloud credits, 4 AI credits | Unlimited workspace members, workspace-private projects, Git sync, custom connectors |
| Lovable Pro | From 100 credits a month at the Bolt Pro price, up to $2,250 for 10,000; $250 a year on the first tier | Plan credits plus 5 build credits a day with no monthly cap | Edit code, download code, custom domains, design systems |
| Lovable Business | $50 a month for 100 credits, up to $4,300 for 10,000 | Same grants, credits priced at double the Pro rate | Role-based access, SSO, security center, personal projects, Lovable API |
| Lovable Enterprise | Custom contract | No daily grants | Terms vary by contract |
Bolt's price is flat and its usage is elastic. Pro starts at 10M tokens and the pricing page says larger bundles exist, but it publishes only the entry price, so a heavy user discovers the next tier at checkout. Lovable publishes the whole ladder: eleven Pro tiers from 100 to 10,000 credits, with annual billing at ten times the monthly price, which is two months free. The 100-credit Pro tier is $250 a year, or $21 a month on the annual card.
Lovable's top-ups are the other number to know. Pro users can buy 50 extra credits for $15, or $0.30 each, and Business users pay twice that for the same 50, or $0.60 each. Business credits cost double because the plan's per-credit price is higher, which is why Lovable itself notes that a workspace moving from Pro to Business sees its credit usage fall. Bolt sells no top-up: you move to a bigger Pro bundle or wait for the reset.
The meter is the real difference
Bolt bills by token, and its own help center says most usage comes from the model reading, understanding and syncing your project files, so the same request costs more tokens on a big project than on a small one. Editing code directly in Bolt's code view costs nothing, which rewards a builder who lets the AI scaffold and then fixes details by hand. A beginner who asks the AI to make every change on a growing app burns the 10M allowance faster each week.
Lovable bills by credit, and each credit is spent per request, sized to the job. Lovable's pricing page gives examples: changing a button's styling costs 0.50 credits, adding a component 0.90, adding sign-up and login with routes 1.20, and generating a landing page with three images and five sections 1.70. The cost of every message shows in the chat, so you can forecast a build. The catch is that chat-mode conversation comes out of a separate daily allowance that resets at 00:00 UTC and never rolls over, so planning with Lovable is time-boxed by the day.
Rollover favors neither side by much. Bolt's paid tokens roll for one extra month, so a bucket is valid for two months and is consumed oldest first; cancel and you forfeit everything. Lovable's unused monthly plan credits roll over as long as the subscription stays active, with monthly plan credits expiring two months after issuance and annual plan credits one month after the annual period ends. The 5 daily build credits on Lovable never roll, so skipping a day loses them.
Free tiers: Bolt gives more volume, Lovable gives more product
Bolt Free resets 300K tokens every day inside a 1M monthly ceiling, which means you can work on roughly three or four days a month at full speed, or a little every day with a small project. It includes hosting, private projects, databases and up to 333K web requests, so a prototype can go live without paying. Free tokens do not roll over, and the month resets on the 1st regardless of when you signed up.
Lovable Free hands you 5 build credits a day, capped at 30 a month, plus 20 Cloud credits for hosting and the built-in backend, 4 credits for AI features inside your app and 1 for connectors. At the example rates above, 5 credits is two or three meaningful changes a day. What Lovable Free does not include is code editing, code download or a custom domain, which are Pro features; Bolt Free lets you open the code from the first prompt. For a buyer who wants to learn how the app works, that gap matters more than the credit count.
Teams: Lovable prices the credits, Bolt prices the seat
Lovable's plans are priced by the credits they include, not by seats, and every plan, including Free, allows unlimited workspace members. A three-person startup can share one entry Pro plan and let the admin set a monthly credit limit per member. Bolt's Teams plan is $30 a month per member, with tokens allocated per person and not shared, so the same three people pay $90 a month and nobody can borrow a colleague's unused balance.
The governance features flip the picture. Lovable Business, from $50 a month, adds role-based access, SSO, a security center, personal projects separate from the workspace, and an API. Bolt puts SSO and audit logs on an Enterprise contract with no published price. A department that needs single sign-on can budget Lovable from a list price and has to request a quote from Bolt.
Code ownership, exports and leaving
Both products let you leave with your code, with one asterisk on Lovable. Lovable's FAQ says your apps, code and content are yours, subject to open-source licenses, and Pro adds Git sync plus code download; Free users get Git sync but not the download button. Bolt exposes the code in every plan, and the 100MB upload limit on Pro, against 10MB on Free, matters when you bring an existing project in rather than starting from a prompt.
Neither vendor refunds. Bolt's billing help states that subscriptions are non-refundable under its terms of service and that a cancellation takes effect at the start of the next billing period, which is a downgrade to Free. Lovable says subscription fees and credits are non-refundable except where the law requires, that cancelling stops future charges without refunding the current period, and that credits cannot be redeemed for cash. Start both on the monthly plan for one cycle before committing to a year, because the annual discount (two months free on Lovable, up to 28% on Bolt) is not worth a locked-in meter you have not watched for a month.
Who should pick which
Pick Lovable if you cannot read JavaScript and do not plan to learn, because the credit meter is legible, the hosting and backend are inside the same balance, and a teammate can join without a second subscription. Pick it too if you need SSO on a published price, or if you are a verified student: Lovable gives 50% off the 100-credit Pro plan for up to twelve months on monthly billing.
Pick Bolt if you want the code in front of you from the first message, if you work in bursts that fit the daily free reset, or if your project is small enough that 10M tokens a month is generous. Bolt also wins when you bring an existing codebase, thanks to the 100MB upload on Pro and the no-token manual edits. Skip Bolt for a large, long-lived app that you will keep asking the AI to modify, because the token cost per message grows with the project.
If neither fits, ChatGPT alternatives covers general assistants that can write code, best AI agents covers tools that act rather than build, and how to write AI prompts helps on both builders, where a precise prompt is a cheaper prompt. How we compared
Louis Corneloup, founder of Dupple and Toolradar, wrote this comparison from the vendors' own pages, read on October 17, 2026: Bolt's pricing page, Bolt's help articles on tokens and billing, Lovable's pricing page, Lovable's documentation on subscription plans, credits and its FAQ. The 157 tool count is from Toolradar's live application development platforms ranking that month. The page compares what each vendor publishes. More on how we publish is on the AIpresso about page.
FAQ
Which is better in 2026, Bolt or Lovable?
Lovable is the better choice for non-developers who want a finished web app with hosting and a backend, and for teams, because every plan allows unlimited members and Business adds SSO from $50 a month. Bolt is better for people who want to see and edit the code, work in short daily bursts on the free tier, or bring an existing project. Both paid plans start at the same monthly price.
How much do Bolt and Lovable cost?
Bolt Pro is $25 a month for 10M tokens, Teams is $30 per member, and Enterprise is a quote; yearly billing saves up to 28%. Lovable Pro starts at the same price for 100 credits, rising through eleven tiers to $2,250 for 10,000 credits, with annual billing at ten times the monthly price; Business runs from $50 to $4,300 a month. Both have a free tier.
Is there a free Bolt or Lovable plan?
Yes, both. Bolt Free gives 300K tokens a day inside a 1M monthly cap, with hosting, private projects and databases. Lovable Free gives 5 build credits a day up to 30 a month, 20 Cloud credits for hosting, 4 AI credits and unlimited workspace members, but no code download or custom domain.
What is the difference between Bolt tokens and Lovable credits?
A Bolt token is a unit of text the model reads or writes, so a request on a large project costs more because the model re-reads the files, while manual edits in the code view cost nothing. A Lovable credit is charged per request and sized to the job, from 0.50 credits for a button style change to 1.70 for a landing page with images, and the price of each message is shown in the chat.
Do unused tokens or credits roll over?
On Bolt's paid plans, unused tokens roll over for one extra month and are valid for two months in total, consumed oldest first; free tokens do not roll. On Lovable, unused monthly plan credits roll over while the subscription is active, monthly plan credits expire two months after issuance, annual plan credits one month after the annual period, and the 5 daily build credits expire at the end of each day.
Can I get a refund from Bolt or Lovable?
No. Bolt states its subscriptions are non-refundable and a cancellation takes effect at the next billing period. Lovable says subscription fees and credits are non-refundable except where the law requires, and cancelling stops future charges while the current period runs out.
