Gamma vs Canva 2026: Which AI Presentation Maker Should You Pay For?

Gamma vs Canva in 2026: Gamma Plus is $108 a year, Canva Pro $144. Which one builds a better AI deck, what each plan's AI allowance covers, and the team math.

Gamma vs Canva 2026: Which AI Presentation Maker Should You Pay For?

Pay for Gamma if your job is turning notes, a doc or a prompt into a finished deck fast: Plus costs $108 a year per seat and Pro $216, on yearly billing. Pay for Canva if the deck is one of many designs you make and brand control matters: Pro is $144 a year for one person, Business $250 a year per person. Prices were read on Gamma's pricing page and Canva's pricing page in October 2026.

Our view: Gamma is the better presentation tool, Canva is the better design subscription. Gamma builds a full structured deck from one prompt and keeps meaningful AI capacity even on its cheapest paid plan. Canva's AI presentation feature is good, but most of what you pay for is templates, stock media, video and social tools you may or may not need.

Toolradar data: among the 68 presentation design tools compared on Toolradar as of October 2026, Canva is listed as an alternative to 149 other tools (#1) and Gamma to 44 (#2). They are the two names buyers in this category weigh against each other most, which is why this matchup keeps coming up.

What the plans cost side by side

Both vendors sell monthly and yearly billing, so this page compares yearly billing on both sides. Gamma says yearly billing saves up to 28% against monthly, and Canva's pricing page offers the same monthly or yearly choice.

Plan Yearly price Who it covers AI included per month
Gamma Free $0 One user 400 credits once, no refill
Gamma Plus $108 per seat Per seat 1,000 credits
Gamma Pro $216 per seat Per seat 4,000 credits
Gamma Ultra $1,080 per seat Per seat 20,000 credits
Canva Free $0 One person Up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses
Canva Pro $144 One person only Up to 200 Premium or 20 Ultra AI uses
Canva Business $250 per person Individuals and teams Up to 400 Premium or 40 Ultra AI uses
Canva Enterprise Contact sales Large organizations Up to 400 Premium or 40 Ultra AI uses

Gamma's entry plan is $36 a year cheaper than Canva Pro (our arithmetic on the two printed yearly prices). The gap matters less than what each dollar buys: on Gamma it is almost all AI generation and presentation features, on Canva it is a full design suite with a capped AI allowance on top.

Gamma also sells a Business plan billed yearly per member, with 10,000 credits per member a month, SSO, locked training opt-out and 100 custom domains, according to its Business help article. Canva Enterprise is sold through its sales team and has no free trial.

The cost for a team of five

Canva Pro is a one-person account, per Canva's own FAQ, so a shared team workspace means Business. Gamma bills every paid plan per seat, so a team can stay on Plus or Pro. Every figure below is our arithmetic on the printed yearly prices.

Team setup, five people Yearly cost What the team gets
Gamma Plus, 5 seats $540 1,000 credits each a month, no Gamma badge, 100 slides per prompt
Gamma Pro, 5 seats $1,080 4,000 credits each, custom branding, analytics, API
Canva Business, 5 people $1,250 Shared workspace, brand kits and approvals, 400 Premium AI uses each

For a sales or consulting team that mostly ships decks, Gamma Pro costs $170 a year less than Canva Business for five people and gives each seat far more AI generation. A marketing team that also produces social posts, ads and video gets more out of Canva Business, because those tools come with the seat. Gamma's per-member billing has one trap: removing a member does not lower the bill until you also reduce the seat count, per its billing help article.

How each one builds a deck with AI

Gamma is built around the prompt. You describe the talk, paste notes or import a PDF or PowerPoint file, and Gamma generates the cards, layout and images in one pass. Free users get up to 10 slides per prompt and paid plans up to 100, per Gamma's pricing page. Credits are metered per slide and per image, and image models show their credit cost before you generate, according to its credits help article.

The weak spot is fine design control. Gamma's card-based layouts look clean, but a designer who wants pixel-level control over every element will find Canva's editor more flexible.

Canva starts from design and adds AI on top. Its presentations page describes Guided Presentations, where Canva AI turns a prompt into an editable deck, plus animations, transitions and a slide that expands into a whiteboard. The output drops into the same editor you use for everything else, with its templates and stock library.

The weak spot is the AI cap. Canva's Premium and Ultra AI tools draw from a shared monthly allowance, and Canva says complex tasks and advanced tools use more of it, so the "up to" counts are best-case estimates. Standard AI tools such as resize, translate and background removal do not draw from the allowance on paid plans, which matters if you would otherwise pay for one of the tools in our best AI background removers list.

AI allowance: credits vs uses

Gamma credits roll over; Canva's allowance resets. Unused Gamma credits carry over up to double the plan amount, so a Plus user can hold up to 2,000. Paid Gamma users can also buy extra credits or set up auto-recharge. On Free, the 400 starter credits never refill, although referrals add 200 credits each.

Canva sells more AI as add-ons. AI Pass is a monthly add-on for Pro and Business users who subscribe online, and AI top-ups are a one-time purchase for Business users only. During a Canva Pro or Business trial, the AI allowance stays at the Free level until you start paying, so a trial does not show you the full paid capacity.

For someone who generates a few decks a week, Gamma Plus is usually enough, and better prompts stretch credits further: our guide on how to write AI prompts applies to deck briefs too. Someone generating video, AI images and decks every day will hit Canva's Premium cap sooner than Gamma's rolling credit balance.

Branding, sharing and the rest of the toolbox

Canva wins brand control. Pro includes 5 Brand Kits and brand templates, and Business raises that to 100 Brand Kits with approvals. Gamma Plus removes the "Made with Gamma" badge, and Pro adds custom branding, password protection, detailed viewer analytics and up to 10 custom domains for published pages.

Canva also wins breadth. The Pro plan covers social scheduling, print-ready CMYK export, video editing, websites, whiteboards, docs, sheets and email design, plus 100GB of storage. If you already pay for Canva for those, its presentation tools come free with the subscription and a separate Gamma seat is hard to justify.

Gamma wins on output for the web. A gamma can be a deck, a doc or a published website, and Pro adds an API that tools like Zapier and Make can call. For a consultant who sends proposals as links and wants to see who opened them, the analytics are a practical reason to pick it.

Both are mature on security paperwork. Gamma states SOC 2 Type II compliance; Canva lists ISO 27001 and SOC Type II from its Free plan up.

Free plans compared

Gamma Free gives you 400 credits once, 10 slides per prompt, imports from PDF and PowerPoint, and export to PDF, PPTX, PNG and Google Slides. It is a real way to test Gamma on one or two decks, but the credits do not come back.

Canva Free includes presentations, up to 20 AI uses a month, 5GB of storage and one Brand Kit. It is the better long-term free option for occasional designs, while Gamma Free is the better trial of AI deck generation. Our best AI presentation makers ranking covers other options with free tiers.

Which one should you pay for?

Pick Gamma if you build pitch decks, proposals, training material or internal updates from text, you want a finished first draft in minutes, and design polish beyond a clean theme is not your job. Plus is the plan to start with; move to Pro if you need custom branding, analytics or the API. Our Gamma pricing breakdown details every tier.

Pick Canva if presentations are one output among social posts, ads, video and print, if several people must stay on brand, or if you already pay for Canva Pro. A solo creator on Pro gets decks included; a team needs Business.

If your company already pays for Microsoft 365, compare the cost of a Microsoft Copilot plan before adding either tool; our Microsoft Copilot pricing page covers the plans. Some teams run both Gamma and Canva: they draft in Gamma, export to PowerPoint and finish in Canva. That doubles the subscription cost, so it only makes sense when the deck volume is high. How we compared

Louis Corneloup, founder of Dupple and Toolradar, prepared this comparison for people choosing an AI presentation subscription. Prices, plan limits and AI allowances were read in October 2026 on Gamma's pricing page, Gamma's help articles on plans and credits, Canva's pricing page and Canva's presentations page. The team totals are our arithmetic on the yearly prices. The category figures come from Toolradar's records for both tools. Dupple has no test lab; nothing here comes from running either product. FAQ

Is Gamma or Canva better for AI presentations in 2026?

Gamma is better for generating a complete presentation from a prompt or notes, with up to 100 slides per prompt and 1,000 monthly credits even on its entry Plus plan. Canva is better when the deck needs heavy design work, brand kits and stock media, and when you also use it for social, video and print.

How much do Gamma and Canva cost?

On yearly billing, Gamma Plus is $108 per seat, Pro $216 and Ultra $1,080, and Canva Pro is $144 for one person with Business at $250 per person. Both have free plans and both also sell monthly billing; Gamma says yearly saves up to 28%. These are the prices on each vendor's pricing page in October 2026.

Is Gamma cheaper than Canva?

Yes at entry level: Gamma Plus is $36 a year less than Canva Pro. For a team of five, Gamma Pro comes to $1,080 a year against $1,250 for Canva Business, by our arithmetic. Canva's price includes a full design suite, so the cheaper option depends on whether you need more than presentations.

Can I export Gamma or Canva decks to PowerPoint?

Yes. Gamma exports to PPTX, PDF, PNG and Google Slides, even on the Free plan, and imports PDF and PowerPoint files. Canva exports presentations as PowerPoint, PDF, a video slideshow or a Canva website, so either tool can hand a deck to someone who works in PowerPoint.

Does Canva Pro work for a team?

No. Canva says only one person can use a Canva Pro account, so a team that wants a shared workspace needs Canva Business, priced per person. Gamma bills each seat on any paid plan, so a team can share a workspace on Plus or Pro.

Do Gamma credits and Canva AI uses roll over?

Gamma's unused credits roll over up to twice the monthly amount, and paid users can buy more. Canva's AI allowance resets each month; extra capacity comes from the AI Pass add-on for Pro and Business, or one-time top-ups for Business. Gamma's Free credits and Canva's trial allowance are both limited to Free-level amounts.
