Gemini Pricing in 2026: Every Plan, Real Costs and Hidden Fees

Google AI Pro, the plan most people should buy for Gemini, is $19.99 a month, and Google AI Plus is $4.99 a month. Google AI Ultra is $99.99 a month for 5x the Pro allowance, or $199.99 a month for 20x, and free stays at $0. These US prices were verified on Google's Gemini subscriptions page in September 2026.

Gemini is Google's assistant for chat, documents, and the apps you already keep open, sold as a personal subscription, a Workspace seat, or a per-token API, and those three bills do not stack. A founder who tries to buy the personal plan on a work login is shopping on the wrong page, because that login takes a Workspace seat instead.

Free is a real assistant until the allowance moves

The free plan is a Google account and nothing else. It already includes chat, image generation, Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas, and Gems, plus a thin slice of Flow and 15 GB across Gmail, Drive, and Photos. Everyday access is Gemini 3.6 Flash, with only varying access to the stronger Pro model, so a hard prompt can leave that model before you have spent a dollar. Free fits a few questions and fails a draft you have to finish.

That varying access is the ceiling that decides whether free is enough. Google does not publish a message count, because usage is compute, and a long chat, a video, or a coding prompt burns the window faster than a short question. The allowance refreshes every five hours, and a weekly cap can still end the week.

Plus is headroom, not a company account

Plus is the first paid personal plan, and it is 2x the free allowance rather than a new model family. You are buying fewer interruptions, not a smarter model. You also get 400 GB, Gemini in Gmail and Vids, and 200 Flow credits a month. Family sharing covers that storage with up to five other people, so this is a household disk upgrade more than a work account. Google's January 27, 2026 launch post listed this plan at $7.99 a month with 200 GB in the US. The card you see now is both cheaper and larger than the one that opened the year.

Buy Plus when free interrupts you and you do not need the long context window that starts on Pro. The subscriptions page does not print an annual total, even though Google One's help center lets Plus be monthly or annual. The yearly invoice is a number you only see at checkout. Plus also cannot buy AI credits, so when the five-hour window is gone you wait or you upgrade.

Pro is the plan that belongs on a workday

Pro is 4x the free allowance, not 4x Plus, which is the comparison people get wrong when they stack the multipliers. The card adds a 1 million token context window, 5 TB, 1,000 Flow credits a month, Gemini in Gmail, Docs, and Vids, and higher Jules and Antigravity limits. In the US it also adds Chrome auto browse and YouTube Premium Lite. Google's May 19, 2026 post put that Lite bundle at an $8.99 monthly value, and it will not turn on if you already pay for YouTube Premium, so leave it out if you already subscribe.

Pay for Pro when Gemini is in the workday and the files live in Drive. Spark, the always-on agent, is listed for Pro and Ultra in select countries. The product comparison, if you are still choosing the assistant, is Claude vs ChatGPT, and the matching bills are ChatGPT pricing and Claude pricing.

Eligible US college students can take a year of Pro at no charge, redeemable through December 31, 2026, and the plan then renews at the regular Pro price unless they cancel. That is a trial with a payment method on file, not a student rate that lasts the degree.

Ultra is capacity, and the top price fell in May

Ultra is for people who already live in Pro. The lower tier is the smaller multiple of Pro's usage, with 20 TB and 10,000 Flow credits a month. The higher tier is the larger multiple of Pro, with 30 TB and 25,000 Flow credits. Both add Deep Think, higher Antigravity and Jules limits, and individual YouTube Premium. Project Genie, the interactive world model, is listed on Ultra, and Google's May post tied the wider Genie rollout to the higher tier.

On May 19, 2026 Google described the lower Ultra tier as a $100 a month plan and cut the top tier from $250 to $200. The subscriptions page now shows those tiers at the prices in the table. There is still no annual discount printed for Ultra, so the top tier stays a monthly bill.

Skip Ultra until you can name the Pro limit that is costing you time. Pro and Ultra can buy AI credits for Flow, Antigravity, and, Google says, soon the Gemini app. Plus cannot, and Google does not print a per-credit price, so a credit pack is a second bill you only see at purchase. Pro also includes $10 in monthly Google Cloud credits, the lower Ultra tier includes $40, and the higher Ultra tier includes a $100. Those credits are Cloud usage, not extra chat messages.

A Workspace seat is the price that can be shared

Only a personal Google account can buy Plus, Pro, or Ultra. A company domain is a Workspace edition, and Gemini is already inside that edition. Business plans cover 1 to 300 users on the same card. On the annual commitment, Business Starter is $7 per user a month, Business Standard is the rate in the table, and Business Plus is $22 per user a month. Flexible month-to-month prices are $8.40, $16.80, and $26.40, which is 20% more per user than the annual column on every edition.

The difference between those seats is model access, not inbox features. Google's edition table gives Business Starter standard Gemini access, a 32,000 token window, and 5 deep research reports a month. Business Standard moves to pro access, a 1 million token window, up to 25 Pro prompts per 4 hours on that table, and 20 deep research reports a day. Business Plus lists the same daily research allowance, so you are paying for storage and the wider edition, not more research. Enterprise-grade data protection requires a verified domain, so a Gmail-only signup is not the company privacy setting.

Storage is pooled: 30 GB per user on Starter, 2 TB on Standard, and 5 TB on Plus. A new subscription includes a 14-day trial, suspended users are billed like active ones, and on an annual plan you can add licenses during the year but cut them only at renewal. AI Expanded Access, the higher-limit add-on, has no public list price, and new purchases stopped including Google Flow on May 5, 2026.

Gemini Enterprise is the agent platform, not a better spellcheck in Gmail. Business edition starts at the seat price in the table, includes 25 GiB of pooled indexing, caps at 300 seats, and offers a 30-day trial. Standard and Plus start at $30 a seat a month, with unlimited seats and up to 75 GiB. Pay-as-you-go has a $0 seat fee from 20 seats, then bills tokens, memory, compute, and storage. On the named editions, Google says prompts and outputs are not used to train its models. That default is why a team leaves personal Pro once customer text is in the chat.

The API is a second price list, and one rate doubles in January

The Gemini API does not come with Pro or Ultra, so a chat subscription never covers an app you ship. Google AI Studio is free, which is the right place to prototype, and a paid key is what an app of yours should call. On the free API tier, Google may use content to improve its products. On the paid tier, for the current text models, it does not, so customer text does not belong on the free key.

Gemini 3.8 Flash is on an introductory paid rate of $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens through December 31, 2026, and that rate doubles on January 1, 2027, so a price you quote a customer has an end date. Output includes thinking tokens, and Batch and Flex are half the standard rate. Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview has no free API tier, and paid input is $2.00 per million tokens up to 200,000 tokens of prompt, and that input rate doubles above the threshold. Output is $12.00 per million up to the same line and $18.00 above it.

Search grounding includes 5,000 free requests a month, shared across Gemini 3 models, then $14 per 1,000 requests, and one prompt can fire more than one search. Gemini Omni Flash bills video at about $0.10 a second of 720p. Spend caps step up with payment history: Tier 1 tops out at $250, Tier 2 at $2,000, and Tier 3 from $20,000 up. Agent loops bill the intermediate reasoning tokens, not one prompt at the sticker rate. Seat math is where the assistants stop looking interchangeable, because the contract is the real gap. Prices below were checked on each vendor's plan pages in September 2026. The product comparison, rather than the invoices, is Gemini vs ChatGPT on Dupple.

Ten personal Pro subscriptions are ten invoices and zero admin, and they cannot be bought on the company domain. Ten Business Standard seats at the annual rate are the shared alternative, with pro-level Gemini after domain verification. ChatGPT Business standard seats are $25 per user on the monthly plan, and OpenAI cut that seat by $5 a month on April 2, 2026, so an older quote is already stale. Premium seats there, and on Claude Team, are $125 a month or a lower annual rate, and they belong on the heavy users. Claude Enterprise is a separate annual contract: a twenty-dollar seat each month plus API usage.

Read the ChatGPT review, ChatGPT on Toolradar, and the Claude review before you treat the invoices as the same product. For the shortlist, start from the best AI chatbots. If the job is live-web research, the Perplexity review matters more than a seat count. People who need prose more than a workspace should read AI writing tools and the ChatGPT alternatives.

Fees that never appear on the plan card

The plan price is the floor, and the Ultra tiers are multiples of Pro, and Pro is already a multiple of free, so the lower Ultra tier is not a small step above free. Personal plans are 18 and older, which keeps a younger account off the paid cards. Google does not refund a partial billing period except where the law requires it, and the figures on this page are the US list.

Family sharing is not five Pro assistants for one price. Google's plans FAQ says family members on a Pro plan can use AI benefits at no extra cost, while buying credits or changing the plan stays with the plan manager. Plus shares storage and does not add a way to buy more compute, so a family group stretches disk rather than the model. A group of coworkers should not open one family group to run a company.

Annual Workspace seats you cannot shrink, suspended users who still bill, and an API rate with a published end date are the other leaks. If you need one invoice and a verified domain, the personal Pro price is the wrong comparison. A wider stack choice sits in AI tools for business.

Which plan is worth paying for

For one person in Gmail and Docs, buy Pro, or stay on free until the varying access is what stalls a task. Plus is the right spend when you want the step above free and the Plus storage bump, and you do not need the long context window. Move to Ultra only after Pro's cap is a weekly event you can describe. The higher tier is for all-day generation, and it has no printed annual discount.

For a team, put people on Workspace Standard or Plus once the domain is verified, and keep personal Pro for work that stays on a personal account. Price Gemini Enterprise when the job is agents over company data. Headroom, whether a higher seat or a credit pack, belongs on the people who will burn it.

For a product, ignore the chat plans and price the API. Keep 3.8 Flash on ordinary traffic while the introductory rate lasts, and calendar the January 1, 2027 doubling before you promise a margin. Use the Pro preview when the prompt needs it, and remember it has no free tier. Batch what can wait, since overnight jobs should take the cheaper rate.

On a Workspace seat the allowance belongs to that user, so one person cannot borrow from another. There is no refund for the unused days of a billing period, except where the law requires it.
