Grok Pricing 2026: Every Plan, Real Costs and Hidden Fees
Grok pricing in 2026: the free plan, SuperGrok at $30 a month, SuperGrok Heavy at $300, and xAI API rates per million tokens, with worked yearly costs.
Grok's free plan costs $0. SuperGrok costs $30 a month and SuperGrok Heavy costs $300 a month, both on monthly billing. Developers pay per token instead, from $1 per million input tokens on the cheapest model in xAI's table to $2 per million on grok-4.7, for prompts under 200,000 tokens. Every figure below comes from Grok's own pages read on October 10, 2026, unless it is marked otherwise.
For most people the answer is simple: stay on the free plan until Grok becomes a daily tool, then pay for SuperGrok. Heavy only makes sense for someone who has already outgrown SuperGrok. For developers, the bill depends on two details: output tokens cost three times as much as input on the top models, and a single request that reaches 200,000 tokens is billed at the higher rate for every token it contains.
Grok plans at a glance
| Plan | Price | Billing | What Grok says it includes | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | None | Chat by text or voice, image and video generation, real-time web search, code writing | Occasional questions and trying Grok |
| SuperGrok | $30 per month | Monthly | Significantly more access to premium models and early access to new features | Daily users who want the premium models |
| SuperGrok Heavy | $300 per month | Monthly | Highest-priced individual tier on the plan list. Grok's web app says a SuperGrok Heavy subscription is required for one gated feature | Power users who have outgrown SuperGrok |
| Team tiers | No per-seat price published | Per seat | Team licenses exist, but the plan list shows no price for them | Teams that need a quote |
X Premium+ is a separate route. Toolradar's October 6, 2026 price check lists it at $40 a month, but nothing here shows that Premium+ includes Grok access. Check X's plan page before you count it as a Grok cost.
What SuperGrok and Heavy cost over a year
Both paid tiers bill monthly. Toolradar's own check, dated October 6, 2026, matches both prices, but confirm them at checkout before you commit.
Multiply by twelve and the gap is plain. SuperGrok on monthly billing costs $360 a year ($30 x 12). Heavy costs $3,600 a year ($300 x 12). Heavy is ten times the price for the same person, a difference of $3,240 a year.
The useful question is whether you can name a specific task that SuperGrok cannot finish. If you cannot, Heavy buys capacity you will not notice, and the $3,240 is better spent elsewhere. If you already hit a ceiling on SuperGrok every week, Heavy is the one plan worth pricing out, because it is the next step up on Grok's plan list.
This page found no annual price for either tier, so the yearly figures above are monthly math only. A yearly plan may cost more or less than twelve monthly charges, so compare any annual option at checkout with the monthly total before you choose.
The free plan
The free plan costs $0. Grok's own listing describes it as text and voice chat, image and video generation, real-time web search and code writing. Usage limits are not in that listing, so this page quotes no message cap, and no guess about how fast a free user hits the ceiling belongs in a pricing answer.
The practical test is short. If you open Grok a few times a week for drafts, quick research or real-time web results, free covers that. If you open it several times a day and the wait starts to cost you, SuperGrok is the next step, and it is the first paid tier that changes the bill for an individual.
API pricing per million tokens
Developers pay for tokens, not seats. xAI's API table, read October 10, 2026, quotes prices in US dollars per million tokens and splits each price at 200,000 prompt tokens. At or above that threshold, every token in the request is billed at the higher rate.
| Model | Input, under 200k tokens | Output, under 200k tokens | Input, 200k tokens or more | Output, 200k tokens or more |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| grok-4.7, grok-4.6, grok-4.5 | $2.00 | $6.00 | $4.00 | $12.00 |
| grok-4.3, grok-4.20 (reasoning, non-reasoning and multi-agent) | $1.25 | $2.50 | $2.50 | $5.00 |
| grok-build-0.1 | $1.00 | $2.00 | $2.00 | $4.00 |
The table has two takeaways. Output is the expensive side on the top models, so each answer token costs more than each prompt token. grok-build-0.1 is the lowest line, half the input price of grok-4.7 and a third of its output price. Pick the model before you design the workflow, because the gap compounds across every call your product makes.
What a realistic API bill looks like
Take a product that sends 10 million input tokens and gets 2 million output tokens back each month, with every request under 200,000 tokens. The arithmetic for three models:
- grok-4.7: 10 x $2 + 2 x $6 = $32 a month
- grok-4.3: 10 x $1.25 + 2 x $2.50 = $17.50 a month
- grok-build-0.1: 10 x $1 + 2 x $2 = $14 a month
The cheapest line costs less than half of grok-4.7 for the same tokens. The cheaper model is not automatically the right one, though. Run your own prompts through grok-build-0.1 and grok-4.7 before you switch, and count the retries a weaker answer causes, because a retry costs tokens too.
Yearly, the same workload on grok-4.7 is $384 ($32 x 12). That is slightly more than SuperGrok's yearly cost, but the two are not substitutes: one is a consumer subscription and the other is metered usage for a product.
Annual cost by route
| Route | Monthly | Yearly | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Free plan, no charge |
| SuperGrok | Monthly price | $360 | Monthly billing, 12 payments |
| SuperGrok Heavy | Monthly price | $3,600 | Monthly billing, 12 payments |
| API, grok-4.7 example | $32 | $384 | 10M input and 2M output tokens a month |
| API, grok-build-0.1 example | $14 | $168 | Same token volume |
The API rows are an example workload, not a plan. Your own token mix decides the number, so run it through the table above before you budget.
Hidden costs and gotchas
- The 200,000-token cliff. A request that reaches 200,000 prompt tokens is billed at the higher rate for every token in it. On grok-4.7, a 199,000-token prompt costs $0.398 in input (0.199 x $2). A 200,000-token prompt costs $0.80 (0.2 x $4). Adding 1,000 tokens roughly doubles the input bill, so trim long contexts before they cross the line.
- Output is the expensive side. On grok-4.7 output costs $6 per million tokens, three times the input rate. On grok-4.3 the gap is smaller, $2.50 against $1.25. Long answers cost more than long prompts, so cap the response length in the product.
- Consumer usage caps are not listed. You cannot estimate when a free user will hit the wall, and you cannot estimate when a SuperGrok user will. Test the tier with your real workload for a week before you pay for the year.
- Team seats have no published price. A five-person team cannot budget from this page, so ask for a quote before you assume a per-seat cost.
- X is a second bill. Toolradar's October 6 check lists X Premium+ at $40 a month. Do not assume that plan includes Grok access without checking X's own pricing.
- Prices move. Consumer prices change without notice, and the API table has no visible version date. Re-check both before a budget meeting.
Which plan to pick
Stay on free if Grok is an occasional tool. You lose nothing by starting here, and our ChatGPT alternatives guide lays out the other assistants you could use instead, so you can judge the switch on the same terms.
Pick SuperGrok if Grok replaces a tool you already pay for, or if you need its premium models every working day. At the monthly price, the case has to be specific, because the yearly cost is real money for a single person.
Consider Heavy only if you have used SuperGrok for a while, hit its limits in your daily work, and can name the tasks that need more. It is hard to justify on capacity alone.
Use the API when Grok powers a product, a script or an internal tool. Choose the model from the token table, price a realistic month, and keep an eye on the 200,000-token line.

Our data
Toolradar data: Toolradar's price check of Grok, dated October 6, 2026, lists SuperGrok and SuperGrok Heavy at the same monthly prices as Grok's plan list on October 10, 2026. Toolradar's AI Assistants category holds 1,538 tools as of October 10, 2026, and its Grok profile is at toolradar.com/tools/grok.
How we checked this page
We read the API model table at docs.x.ai on October 10, 2026, and Grok's consumer plan list at grok.com/plans on the same day. Those two pages are the source for every Grok price on this page. Toolradar's October 6, 2026 price check is the cross-check for the consumer tiers and the only source for the X Premium+ figure.
We could not confirm four things in those sources: annual consumer prices, consumer usage caps, per-seat team prices and a visible version date for the API table. This page does not quote them, and it says so where they matter.
