Synthesia Pricing in 2026: Every Plan, Credits and Real Monthly Costs

Synthesia pricing in 2026: Starter is $29/mo or $18/mo yearly, Pro is $89/mo or $64/mo yearly. Credits, minutes, add-ons, and a worked monthly cost.

For a solo trainer making four 5-minute videos a month, yearly Starter is the plan that covers the work at the lowest bill: $18 a month, $216 for the year, checked on Synthesia's pricing page in October 2026. Month to month, Starter is $29 and Pro is $89, or $64 a month on a yearly Pro plan. Those 20 minutes use the 10 minutes included on every plan, then about 1,000 credits, and Starter's extra pool is 1,250.

The sticker is not a minute bundle. Synthesia renamed Creator to Pro on October 1, 2026, kept the price, and put video, dubbing, and surveys on one credit pool, so an old quote that says Creator is the same bill under a new name. A Syren minute is the trap: the pricing page says a typical prompt-built minute spends 1,000 to 2,000 credits, so one generated clip can finish a Starter month that a normal talking-head minute would barely dent.

Toolradar data: the AI video ranking tracks 144 AI video generation tools as of October 16, 2026, and the median cheapest paid plan among the 42 that publish a price is $19.95 a month. Yearly Starter sits under that median, and the monthly Starter rate sits above it. The product record is Synthesia on Toolradar, the product verdict is the Synthesia review, and the page for switching is Synthesia alternatives.

Plan Price Credit pool What changes the buy
Basic $0 500 a month, plus 10 video minutes and 3 surveys Watermark, no download you can ship, 1 editor
Starter $29/mo, or $18/mo yearly 1,250 extra a month, or 15,000 extra for the year Logo off, downloads, 3 guests, 125+ avatars
Pro $89/mo, or $64/mo yearly 6,000 extra a month, or 72,000 extra for the year 5 personal avatars, interactive video, 5 guests
Pro 2x to 8x $176/mo to $676/mo on monthly billing 12,000 to 48,000 extra credits a month Same Pro features, a larger pool, a small volume discount
Enterprise Custom quote Custom volumes, unlimited video minutes SSO, SCORM, more than one editor

How much does Synthesia cost in 2026?

Basic renews at no charge, and the self-serve paid plans are Starter and Pro, the tier that used to be called Creator. Enterprise publishes no list price, so a team that needs a second editor, SSO, or a course export cannot budget from the public page. Twelve months of monthly Starter come to $348, which is $132 more than the yearly plan, and twelve months of monthly Pro come to $1,068, against $768 on the yearly rate, which is what you pay for the option to stop.

Yearly billing buys the same product and changes only when the extra credits arrive. A yearly plan's credits are available up front, while a monthly plan's extra credits reset every billing period and do not roll, so a heavy early month can borrow ahead and a quiet month on monthly billing is gone. The help center's yearly totals, 21,000 credits on Starter and 78,000 on Pro, are the card's extra grant plus 12 months of the 500-credit allowance that every plan includes. The card itself prints only the extra grant, 15,000 and 72,000, and stacking that grant on the help-center total double-counts the allowance.

Pro is a ladder, not one bucket. Each step keeps the Pro feature set and adds credits, with a small discount as the pool grows. The prices below are the ones on the pricing page in October 2026.

Pro tier Extra credits per month Monthly price Extra credits per year Yearly price
Pro 6,000 $89/mo 72,000 $64/mo
Pro 2x 12,000 $176/mo 144,000 $126/mo
Pro 4x 24,000 $347/mo 288,000 $250/mo
Pro 6x 36,000 $514/mo 432,000 $370/mo
Pro 8x 48,000 $676/mo 576,000 $486/mo

A second editor is not on this ladder. Basic, Starter, and Pro each include one editor. Starter adds 3 guest commenters and Pro adds 5. More editors, live collaboration, SAML SSO, brand kits, and SCORM export sit on Enterprise. If two people need to work in the editor, the self-serve prices above are the wrong quote.

How do Synthesia credits work?

Credits are one balance for video, dubbing, surveys, B-roll, bulk personalization, Interactive Avatars, and the API, so a dub or a survey spends the same pool as the lesson. The free allowance is spent first, every month, on every plan including Basic: the included minutes, 3 survey responses, and the small credit grant in the table above. Paid plans then add the extra credits from that same table. The help center also includes a one-time 60 minutes of Interactive Avatar when you sign up, and those minutes are not for ordinary lessons.

The credits article and the October 1 plan change split dubbing: 40 credits a minute without lip-sync, and twice that with it. The pricing page's estimator uses 76 credits a dubbing minute, and Pro's own "~78 extra dubbing minutes" matches the extra monthly pool divided by that estimator, not the lip-sync rate. If mouths have to match the new language, budget the higher help-center rate, or the card will understate the month.

Use Credits What it means for a Starter month
Typical finished video About 100 per minute The extra monthly pool is about 12 more minutes
Dubbing, no lip-sync 40 per minute The extra pool covers about 31 dubbing minutes
Dubbing, with lip-sync 80 per minute The same pool covers about 15 dubbing minutes
Dubbing, page estimator 76 per minute The card's own figure, about 16 extra minutes
Survey response, after the first 3 350 About 3 extra responses from the extra pool
API video 160 per minute About 8 API minutes from the extra pool
Interactive avatar API, avatar only 10 per minute A conversation minute is cheap next to a rendered video
Syren, typical minute 1,000 to 2,000 One clip can exceed the extra Starter pool

Avatar time is what the typical minute is measuring. Synthesia charges for avatar footage generated, not for a silent gap, so a presenter who stays on screen the whole time costs more than one who cuts away. Edits are charged on the new footage only: changing three seconds and regenerating charges those three seconds. Duplicating a project does not spend credits, and generating the duplicate does.

Generated B-roll is a second meter on the same pool. The pricing page prices a b-roll asset with action at 230 credits, and the help center prices a Veo 3.1 clip with audio at 460 credits. Bulk personalization, the spreadsheet-to-many-videos feature, is 180 credits a minute. A plan that looks large for talking-head lessons gets small if every scene also renders a clip.

Syren, the prompt-to-video agent, is capped at 3 minutes on every plan, which is the "video length" row under Syren in the comparison, and that cap is not the editor. The pricing FAQ uses a ten-minute video as a normal unit, so a lesson can run longer than a Syren clip. On October 9, 2026 Synthesia gave each user 2,000 Syren-only credits that expire November 9, 2026 at 23:59 BST, cannot be shared, and cannot be spent on ordinary video. After that date, Syren spends the plan balance. Basic Syren videos carry a watermark, and download and sharing on Basic last the first two weeks.

How many video minutes does each plan include?

Every plan includes a block of minutes each month before credits are touched, and Synthesia's Starter FAQ then adds the extra pool: roughly 12 more minutes of typical video, about 22 minutes a month in total. The help center's fuller count, which also spends the included credit allowance on video, is about 17 minutes on top of the free block, close to 27 minutes. Use 22 when you might dub or run a survey, and use 27 only when every credit goes to ordinary video.

Plan Extra video the card quotes If you spend the whole credit total on video
Basic None beyond the free 10 minutes About 5 more minutes from the 500 credits
Starter, monthly About 12 minutes About 17 more minutes, from 1,750 credits
Starter, yearly About 150 minutes for the year 15,000 extra credits, plus the monthly allowance
Pro, monthly About 60 minutes About 65 more minutes, from 6,500 credits
Pro, yearly About 720 minutes for the year 72,000 extra credits, plus the monthly allowance
Enterprise Unlimited video minutes The credit ladder stops applying

Those card estimates assume the typical editor minute and, for dubbing, the page estimator, and they stop holding once a scene includes motion graphics. Ten 1-minute videos and one 10-minute video spend the same credits, which is Synthesia's own example, so the cap is minutes of avatar footage, not a count of files you export.

What a real month costs

The totals below are our arithmetic from the rates above, not a Synthesia invoice. Assumptions: a typical editor minute is the rate in the credit table, the included minutes are used on the source video first, surveys are unused, and the videos are not Syren clips. A 5-minute lesson cannot be one Syren video anyway, because Syren stops at the short cap described above.

Job Credits after the free minutes Plan that fits Bill
4 videos x 5 minutes, no dubbing, one month 1,000 Starter monthly One month of Starter; a year at that rate is $348
Same 20 minutes every month for a year 12,000 extra credits over the year Starter yearly, 15,000 extra credits $216
60 minutes plus two lip-sync dubs (120 dubbing minutes) 14,600 at 80 credits a dubbing minute Pro 4x $347/mo, or $250/mo yearly ($3,000 for the year)
Same 60 minutes, two dubs, no lip-sync 9,800 at 40 credits a dubbing minute Pro 2x $176/mo
Same lip-sync job at the estimator's 76 14,120 Still Pro 4x The plan does not drop to Pro 2x

The solo job fits in Starter with credits left. The included minutes cover half the month, the other half needs about 1,000 credits, and the extra pool leaves 250 unused if nothing else runs. Pay monthly only if the habit might stop inside a few months. A full year of that habit is $132 cheaper on the yearly rate, and the year's extra credits arrive up front rather than in twelve drips.

The training job does not fit in base Pro. Fifty paid video minutes are 5,000 credits, and two lip-sync language tracks are 9,600 more, which is 14,600 against a base Pro month of 6,500 credits or a Pro 2x month of 12,500. Pro 4x, at 24,500 credits including the allowance, is the first self-serve step that holds it. Drop lip-sync and the same two languages fall to 4,800 dubbing credits, 9,800 in total, which Pro 2x holds, and a course that also needs SCORM still cannot stop on Pro 4x, because SCORM is an Enterprise line. For who should buy an avatar tool for lessons, see AI avatar generators for training videos.

Starter or Pro: which one?

Buy Starter when one person publishes ordinary talking-head video, can stay near the monthly minute estimate above, and does not need a personal avatar roster or interactive scenes. The upgrade that matters is practical: downloads, the Synthesia logo removed, the AI Video Assistant, survey analytics, 3 guests, and 125+ avatars, against 9 avatars on Basic. You still have one editor.

Move to Pro when the month runs past that estimate, or when the work needs what the Pro card adds: 5 personal avatars, branded video pages, interactive video, 5 guests, 180+ avatars, and priority support. Do not buy Pro to seat a colleague. The second login is still a guest seat or an Enterprise contract, and Pro 2x and above buy credit volume without adding features.

Enterprise is the plan when the requirement list says unlimited minutes, 1-click translation into 140+ languages, 240+ stock avatars, unlimited personal avatars, SSO, live collaboration, or SCORM. Self-serve dubbing lists 70+ output languages, and the wider language row on Enterprise is a larger dubbing set, not the same limit with a different label. Voices and accents are listed at 140+ on every plan, which is a different row from dubbing output, so a voice you can pick is not a language you can ship.

What a custom avatar, a learner seat, and the API cost

Personal avatars and Studio avatars are different products. The comparison lists 3 personal avatars on Starter, the Pro card includes 5, and Enterprise lists unlimited personal avatars, subject to reasonable consumption. A Studio Express-1 avatar, the filmed one, is a paid add-on at $1,000 a year, annual plans only, and Synthesia says it can take up to 10 days to process. It is not inside the Starter or Pro price, so a monthly plan cannot buy it. A yearly Starter subscription plus one Studio avatar is $1,216 before any learner seats.

Roleplay learner seats are an add-on on any plan, billed on top of the video plan. The price is $29 per learner on a monthly plan and $25 per learner on a yearly plan, and more than 100 seats is a demo rather than a card price. A seated learner is not limited by the session cap. Shared roleplays played by link, embed, or SCORM are capped at 10 sessions a month on Basic, Starter, and Pro, and 25 a month on Enterprise, shared across the organization's workspaces, so a shared link runs out while a named seat does not. Building a survey is free, and the fourth response in a month draws the survey rate in the credit table.

The API rate card on the same pricing page lists dollar prices, and usage draws from the same credit balance as the subscription, so a busy API month can pause the lessons. Synthesia does not print a conversion, so a $0.10 minute is not documented as 10 credits.

API product Price on the rate card Credits in the help center
Interactive avatars, avatar tech only $0.10 per minute 10 credits a minute
Interactive avatars, full stack $0.20 per minute, listed as coming soon 20 credits a minute with the widget
Dubbing, voice only $0.40 per minute Studio dubbing without lip-sync is 40 credits a minute
Dubbing, with lip-sync $0.80 per minute Studio dubbing with lip-sync is 80 credits a minute
API video creation No dollar rate on the public card 160 credits a minute

There is no public per-credit price for a top-up, so an overage has no list rate until you hit the cap. Video creation and survey collection then pause until renewal, unless you buy extra credits from Plan and billing or step up a Pro tier. Purchased credits last 12 months. Unused plan credits do not roll, and an upgrade mid-cycle replaces the old balance rather than adding unused credits on top, so the upgrade throws away what was left. A wider set of studios is in AI video generators and AI avatar generators.

Synthesia vs HeyGen for the same 20 minutes

HeyGen's pricing page, checked the same day, prices Creator at $24 a month when billed yearly, $288 for the year, with 600 credits a month. That yearly bill is $72 more than a year of Synthesia Starter for this solo job, and the minutes are not the same unit. HeyGen's credit guide charges Avatar III photo at 7 credits a minute and Avatar V at 48. Twenty minutes of Avatar III photo is 140 credits, which fits inside Creator with most of the pool left. Twenty minutes of Avatar V is 960 credits, and Creator's monthly grant stops at 12.5 minutes of that model.

HeyGen is the cheaper minute only on the cheap model. For a plain photo avatar, Creator's monthly grant covers far more than this solo month, so the higher yearly bill still buys more photo-avatar minutes than Synthesia's yearly extra grant. For Avatar V, Creator does not cover the scenario at all, and you are on a higher HeyGen tier before Starter has a problem. The plan-by-plan breakdown of that other meter is HeyGen pricing, and the quality comparison is HeyGen vs Synthesia. HeyGen's own record is HeyGen on Toolradar.

Seats flip the team decision before credits do. HeyGen charges $20 a month for each extra Business seat, and those seats do not add credits. Synthesia does not sell a second editor on Starter or Pro at any public price. SCORM is on HeyGen Business and on Synthesia Enterprise, so a course export can force the quote-only plan here while it is still a listed HeyGen tier. Dubbing a finished file is a different product again: compare AI dubbing tools and the walkthrough how to translate a video with AI. A voice-only bill is ElevenLabs pricing, not a line on this page.

Cinematic clips, rather than a presenter, are priced on a different credit, which is why Runway pricing and Kling AI pricing are the wrong tables for a training video and the right ones for a shot.

Is Synthesia worth it?

Yes, for one editor who can forecast minutes, stay off Syren for the monthly habit, and does not need a second person in the timeline. Yearly Starter is the cheapest way to produce the solo month described above.

No, if the team needs several editors, SCORM, or SSO before it will sign, because those are Enterprise conversations with no public price. No, if the work is prompt-built Syren video: at the Syren rate in the credit table, and with the short cap, Starter is a demo, not a production plan. And no, if the real comparison is a cheap HeyGen photo avatar, where Creator buys more minutes at a higher yearly sticker.

How we checked these prices

Louis Corneloup, founder of Dupple and Toolradar, prepared this price breakdown for people choosing a Synthesia plan. We read Synthesia's pricing page, the credits article, the October 1, 2026 plan-change note, and the Syren help article on October 16, 2026, plus HeyGen's pricing page and credit guide the same day. Minute totals in the scenario table are our arithmetic from those rates. The 144 tool count and the $19.95 median are from Toolradar's live AI video ranking that day. FAQ

How much does Synthesia cost in 2026?

Basic is free, and Starter is $29 a month, or $18 a month on a yearly plan ($216 for the year, versus $348 if you pay monthly for 12 months). Pro starts at $89 a month, or $64 a month yearly ($768 for the year, versus $1,068 on monthly billing), and scales to $676 a month for 48,000 extra credits. Enterprise publishes no list price. These are the prices on Synthesia's pricing page in October 2026, and Creator is the old name for Pro.

Is Synthesia free?

Yes. Basic is $0, renews every month, and includes 10 minutes of video or dubbing, 3 survey responses, and 500 credits. Videos carry a Synthesia watermark, and the share link is not a file you can hand a client without the logo, so downloads and logo removal are the reason to move to Starter. Syren on Basic is watermarked, and download and sharing there last the first two weeks.

How many minutes of video does Synthesia Starter include?

Synthesia's own FAQ says every plan includes 10 minutes a month, and the extra Starter credits add roughly 12 minutes of typical video, about 22 minutes in total if you might also dub. That total falls if you dub, run surveys, or use Syren, because those jobs share the pool. The help center's fuller total, which includes the monthly allowance, is about 17 minutes on top of the free block when every credit goes to ordinary video, and a yearly plan lists about 150 extra video minutes for the year on top of that allowance.

Do unused Synthesia credits roll over?

No. The monthly allowance and the plan's extra credits reset each billing period, so a quiet month does not bank minutes for a busy one. On a yearly plan the year's extra credits are available up front, which is not a monthly rollover, so a heavy early month can borrow from later months. Credits you buy separately last 12 months, and an upgrade mid-cycle resets the balance to the new plan's full allocation rather than keeping what was left.

How much is a Synthesia custom avatar?

A personal avatar is included in the plan limits: 3 on Starter, 5 on Pro, and unlimited on Enterprise within reasonable consumption. A Studio Express-1 avatar is not included. It is a $1,000-a-year add-on, annual plans only, and processing can take up to 10 days, so a monthly plan cannot buy it. A learner seat for roleplay is separate, at $25 per learner a month on a yearly plan.

Does the Synthesia API cost extra?

The rate card lists interactive avatars at $0.10 a minute for the avatar layer and $0.20 a minute for the full stack, which is marked coming soon. Dubbing on the API is $0.40 a minute for voice only and $0.80 a minute with lip-sync, and that usage draws from the same credit balance as the subscription. The help center prices API video creation at 160 credits a minute, steeper than a typical editor minute, and there is no public price for a credit top-up.

Is Synthesia cheaper than HeyGen?

For the solo month of four 5-minute editor videos, yearly Starter at $216 for the year costs less than HeyGen Creator at $288 for the year. HeyGen Creator still covers that month on Avatar III photo (140 credits of its monthly grant) and does not cover it on Avatar V (960 credits), so the cheaper product depends on which HeyGen model you render. Neither self-serve Synthesia plan adds a second editor, while HeyGen sells extra seats on Business that do not add credits.

Is Synthesia worth it for training videos?

It is worth it when one person can stay inside the minute math and the course does not require SCORM, SSO, or a second editor, and yearly Starter covers that light publishing month. A 60-minute lesson dubbed with lip-sync into two languages needs Pro 4x, at $347 a month or $250 a month on yearly billing. If the lesson has to export as SCORM, the public Pro ladder is not the plan, and Enterprise is a quote.
