Manus AI Review

What the general-purpose agent costs in 2026, how its credit system works, where it beats a chatbot, and four alternatives priced from the vendors' own pages.

TL;DR

Manus is worth it for people who want finished deliverables (slides, websites, research reports, videos) rather than chat replies, and who can live with a credit meter. The free plan gives every new account 1,000 credits plus 300 credits a day; Pro starts at $20 a month, with a 17% discount on annual billing and higher tiers for heavier use; Team costs the same per seat, with 4,000 pooled credits per seat. The catch is the meter: unused credits are cleared every cycle, a long task can drain a tier in days, and free accounts only get the Lite model in agent mode. Closest alternatives: ChatGPT, Lindy, Lovable and Replit. Prices read on Manus's own pages on October 17, 2026.

Manus sells a different promise from ChatGPT: you describe the outcome, it runs the work in its own cloud computer, and you come back to a finished file.

That pitch landed in early 2025 and the product has since grown into Manus 2.0, with a desktop Studio, a video editor, a game builder, automations that fire on events in Slack or Notion, and a separate agent app called Cue. The real question for a buyer in 2026 is not whether Manus can do the job, but what a month of jobs costs in credits.

This review is written for freelancers, founders and small teams weighing Manus against a chatbot subscription they already pay for. It covers what Manus is, how the credit system actually behaves, every price Manus publishes, who should buy Pro and who should stay free, and four alternatives with prices read on each vendor's own page.

If you want the wider field first, our ranking of the best AI agents and our explainer on what agentic AI means set the scene.

What is Manus?

Manus is a general-purpose autonomous agent from Manus AI. You give it a task in plain language, it plans the steps, opens a virtual computer, browses, writes code, builds files and hands back a deliverable: a slide deck, a spreadsheet analysis, a website, an image set, a research report or a video.

Work runs asynchronously in the cloud, so closing the app does not stop the task, and you get a notification when it finishes.

Manus 2.0 is the current version. Its new internal system, Cascade, loads specialised tools only when a project needs them; in one configuration the company tested, it used 23.2% fewer tokens and cost 32% less to run than the previous system, a result Manus itself labels as one tested configuration rather than an average.

On top sit Manus Studio (a desktop workspace that works with files already on your computer), the Video Editor and Game Dev add-ons, Automations triggered by events in connected apps, a purchasable Cloud Computer for always-on projects, Remote Control from your phone, and Cue, an early-access app where each agent gets its own email, phone number and wallet.

Every one of those features draws on the same currency: credits. That is the design choice this review keeps coming back to, because it decides what Manus costs you far more than the headline plan price does.

How Manus works

You start in Chat mode or Agent mode. Chat mode answers like a chatbot and is open to free and paid users. Agent mode is where the work happens: Manus breaks the request into steps, runs them on its virtual machine, shows you the replay, and delivers files you can download, share or publish.

Free accounts get Manus 2.0 Lite in Agent mode; Pro accounts can choose Manus 2.0, 2.0 Max or Lite, and the Max setting is what Manus recommends when quality matters, for example in Game Dev.

Credits are consumed only while a task is actively running; finished tasks and their hosted outputs cost nothing to keep. The cost of a task depends on its complexity and duration, so a quick summary is cheap and a multi-step research job with browsing and file generation is not.

Manus refunds credits for tasks that fail because of a technical issue on its side, and it deducts each action's cost at the start of the next action, which is why a balance can briefly show a negative number.

The rules that bite: monthly credits refresh on your subscription date and unused ones are cleared, annual plans still refresh monthly with the same clearing, and the 300 daily refresh credits vanish at 00:00 UTC if you do not use them.

Upgrading mid-cycle issues the difference in credits but keeps the original renewal date. Plan around the meter, not the calendar, and Manus is pleasant to use; ignore it and the first month ends in a top-up.

Manus key features

Agent mode with a cloud computerEssential
The core product: Manus plans a task, runs it on its own virtual machine, browses and codes as needed, and returns a finished deliverable while you do something else. This is the feature that separates it from a chatbot, and the one that spends most of your credits.
Credit system with daily refreshEssential
Every account gets 1,000 credits at signup and 300 more each day at 00:00 UTC; paid tiers add a monthly allowance that does not roll over. Understanding this is the difference between a plan-price month and a surprise top-up.
Manus Studio, Video Editor and Game Dev
Manus 2.0 turned the desktop app into a workspace that reads local folders and ships websites, code, videos and games. Video Editor hands you a timeline after the first cut, and Game Dev starts from a playable template with multiplayer hosted on a Cloud Computer you buy separately.
Automations and scheduled tasks
Tasks can start on a schedule or when something happens in a connected service, such as a new email, a Slack message, a Notion update or a change in ad performance. One prompt sets up the watch and the follow-up action.
Team plan with pooled credits
Team seats share one credit pool, so a quiet member's surplus covers a busy one. Guests can view deliverables and comment without a paid seat, admins get usage analytics and access control, and SSO is free at 30 seats or more.
Cue, Remote Control and Computer Use
Cue gives each agent its own email, phone number and wallet and is free in early access with an invite code. Remote Control lets you drive your own computer by voice from your phone. Both are new and worth treating as previews rather than reasons to buy.

Manus pricing

Manus publishes its prices in US dollars on its own pages, and every figure here was read there on October 17, 2026. The membership pricing article lists Free at $0, an entry Pro tier priced level with ChatGPT Plus, a second Pro tier starting from $40 a month with a 7-day free trial, and Team at the same per-seat price as entry Pro, all with a 17% discount on annual billing.

The Team page prices a seat at $200 a year (12 monthly payments cost $40 more) and sets the base allowance at 4,000 credits per seat per month, with SSO included free at 30 seats or more and sold as a flat $150 add-on below that.

Manus's own app store listing shows Pro tiers that step up to ten times the entry price for the heaviest users. The discounts article confirms the free allowance: 1,000 credits at registration and 300 refreshed daily, with no extra free credits on request.

What a year costs. One person on the entry Pro tier pays $240 on monthly billing, or about $199 with the 17% annual discount. A five-person team on annual billing pays $1,000 a year (five annual seats) for a shared pool of 20,000 credits a month; add the $150 SSO fee if you need single sign-on under 30 seats.

Eligible startups that raised between $500,000 and $50 million can apply for six months of Team on up to 20 seats, which Manus values at $4,800. The Cloud Computer, the Cue phone number and credit top-ups are billed separately from the membership, so a heavy Manus 2.0 user should budget beyond the plan price.

Against the alternatives. ChatGPT's mainstream Plus plan costs the same as Manus Pro and its Pro tiers start at $100, per OpenAI's pricing page. Lindy starts at $29.99 a month for 3,000 credits per user after $50 of free credits, per Lindy's pricing page.

Lovable's Pro plan is $25 a month for 100 credits and Business is $50, per Lovable's pricing page. Replit Core is $18 a month billed annually (a year of monthly billing costs $24 more) and Pro is $90 a month billed annually, per Replit's pricing page.

Manus's entry price sits level with ChatGPT Plus and Replit Core, so the decision is about what you want for the money: a chat workspace, an app builder, or an agent that returns files.

Toolradar data: Manus's head-to-head comparison pages on Toolradar, the software directory we run, had 103 visits in the last 30 days, ranking #3 of the 30 App Builders tools with 20 or more compare-page visits, and #16 of 222 such tools across AI Assistants, as of October 2026.

Buyers are actively weighing Manus against named rivals rather than discovering it cold, which is why this review prices the alternatives next to it.

Manus pros and cons

What we like

  • Delivers finished files (decks, websites, spreadsheets, videos, games) asynchronously, with a replay of every step.
  • Free plan is real: 1,000 credits at signup plus 300 refreshed daily, with Chat mode open to everyone.
  • Team seats pool 4,000 credits each, include free guest reviewers, and SSO is free from 30 seats.

What could be better

  • Unused credits are cleared every cycle on monthly and annual plans, and daily credits expire at 00:00 UTC.
  • Free accounts only get the Lite model in Agent mode; Manus 2.0 and 2.0 Max need a Pro plan.
  • Cloud Computer, Cue phone numbers and top-ups are billed on top of the plan price.

Who Manus is for

Manus is a strong fit for solo operators and small teams who need output, not conversation: a consultant who wants a deck and a research memo by morning, a founder prototyping a web app or a game without an engineer, a marketer who wants a 30-second product ad cut and then re-cut on a timeline.

The free plan, with its 300 daily credits, is enough to find out whether the deliverables are good enough for your work, and the entry Pro tier is the sensible first paid step. Teams that want shared credits, guest reviewers and audit logs get real value from Team seats at the same price point.

It is a weaker fit if your work is mostly writing and thinking. A chatbot subscription gives you unlimited back-and-forth for a flat fee, while every Manus agent run spends credits that disappear at the end of the cycle.

Skip it too if you need a predictable bill: credit burn depends on task length, the top Pro tiers cost ten times the entry price, and the Cloud Computer and Cue phone numbers are extra. And if your real goal is a production web app, Lovable and Replit are built for that single job with simpler pricing.

The bottom line

Buy Manus if you measure an AI tool by the files it hands back. The free plan with 300 daily credits lets you test that on real work, the entry Pro tier is priced level with ChatGPT Plus and Replit Core, and Team at the same per-seat rate with pooled credits and free guests is a fair deal for a small group.

Manus 2.0's Studio, Video Editor, Game Dev and event-triggered Automations widen what one subscription can produce, and the company's own figures claim a cheaper engine under the hood.

Hold off if you want a flat-fee chat tool or a predictable invoice. Credits clear every cycle, the heavy tiers cost multiples of the entry price, and the Cloud Computer and Cue add their own lines. For pure writing and analysis, ChatGPT Plus gives unlimited chats for the same money.

For workflow automation across business apps, Lindy fits better. For a production web app, Lovable or Replit is the tighter tool.

How we compared them (methodology): we read Manus's membership pricing, credits, daily refresh and discounts help articles, its Team and startups pages and the Manus 2.0 announcement, plus the pricing pages of ChatGPT, Lindy, Lovable and Replit, all on October 17, 2026.

We run no test lab, so claims about output quality are the vendor's, not ours. Toolradar figures come from Manus on Toolradar, October 2026; ChatGPT's profile is at toolradar.com/tools/chatgpt.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Manus AI cost in 2026?

Manus lists a Free plan at $0, a Pro plan starting from $20 a month, a second Pro tier from $40 a month with a 7-day free trial, and a Team plan at the same per-seat rate on monthly billing or $200 per seat a year, all in US dollars with a 17% discount on annual billing. Manus's app store listing shows Pro tiers that climb well above the entry price for heavy users. Cloud Computers, Cue phone numbers and credit top-ups are charged separately, as read on Manus's own pages on October 17, 2026.

Is Manus AI free to use?

Yes, with limits. Every new account receives 1,000 credits at registration and 300 refresh credits every day at 00:00 UTC, and the daily credits do not accumulate. Free users get Chat mode and Manus 2.0 Lite in Agent mode; the full Manus 2.0 and 2.0 Max settings require a Pro plan. Manus says it does not grant extra free credits to individual users on request.

How do Manus credits work?

Credits are spent only while a task is running, and the amount depends on the task's complexity and duration; completed tasks and hosted outputs cost nothing to keep. Monthly allowances refresh on your subscription date and unused credits are cleared, on annual plans too. Manus refunds credits for tasks that fail because of its own technical issues, and admins on Team plans can buy add-on credits or enable auto-purchase.

Is Manus AI worth it compared with ChatGPT?

It depends on what you want back. Manus Pro and ChatGPT Plus cost the same per month, but ChatGPT gives unlimited text chats and a workspace for writing and coding, while Manus spends credits to return finished deliverables such as decks, sites, reports and videos. If most of your day is conversation, ChatGPT is the better buy; if you keep asking a chatbot to produce files you then rebuild yourself, Manus is the one to try, starting on the free plan.

What does the Manus Team plan include?

Team is $200 per seat a year, or the entry Pro price per seat on monthly billing, with a base of 4,000 credits per seat per month pooled across the team. It adds shared projects, skills and instructions, an admin dashboard with usage tracking, audit logs, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 compliance, and an unlimited free Guest role for people who only view and comment. SSO is free for teams of 30 seats or more and a flat $150 add-on below that.

What are the best Manus alternatives?

ChatGPT (Plus, priced level with Manus Pro) if you want a chat workspace with agent features on top; Lindy (from $29.99 per user a month) for repeatable business workflows connected to your inbox and CRM; Lovable (Pro at $25 a month) or Replit (Core at $18 a month billed annually) if the deliverable you need is a production web app. Our best AI agents and best AI automation tools rankings cover the wider field.
