Speechify Pricing 2026: Premium, Studio and API Plans
Speechify pricing in 2026: Premium is $29 a month or $139 a year, Studio starts at $19 a month, and the API at $10. What each meter buys and where the trap sits.

Speechify Premium costs $29 a month billed monthly, or $139 a year billed yearly, and the free plan reads aloud with 10 robotic voices at up to 1.5x speed. Speechify Studio, the voiceover and dubbing app, is a separate subscription from $19 a month, and the developer API is billed per character on a third plan. Prices were read on Speechify's pricing page, its Studio pricing page and the SpeechifyAI pricing page on 19 October 2026.
Our view: the yearly Premium plan is the only reader plan worth buying, and the monthly price exists mostly to make it look cheap. Speechify sells three products under one name, each with its own meter, and paying for the wrong one is the costliest mistake on this page. A student who wants a book read aloud needs Premium; a YouTuber who wants a narrated video needs Studio; a developer needs the API. None of the three includes the others.
Toolradar data: on Speechify's Toolradar page, its entry paid plan, at $11.58 a month on yearly billing, ranks 28th of 54 for price among the AI voice tools with a verified entry price, where the median is $10.79 a month, as of October 2026. The same data puts it joint 7th of 127 tools in the AI voice category for how often it is listed as an alternative to another product.

How much does Speechify Premium cost?
Premium is the reading app on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows, the web and the Chrome and Edge extensions. The pricing page has a monthly and a yearly toggle, and labels the yearly price a 60% saving. Our division puts the yearly plan at $11.58 a month, while twelve monthly payments add up to $348, so the toggle you click decides most of what you pay.
Monthly billing costs $209 more over a year for the same features. That gap is the whole pricing story on the reader side: Speechify's refund policy also says monthly and quarterly subscriptions are non-refundable, so a buyer who tries Premium monthly and drops it after two months has spent $58 for something the yearly plan covers for 12 months at a little over twice that.
What the yearly price buys over the free plan:
- More than 1,000 natural voices in 60+ languages, against 10 robotic voices on Free.
- Listening at up to 5x speed, against 1.5x on Free.
- Scan and Listen for printed pages, plus Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive imports.
- AI summaries and chats, voice typing, AI podcasts and the voice assistant.
The free plan works for short articles if a robotic voice does not bother you, but it is not a trial of Premium: the voices you hear on Free are not the ones you pay for, so judge the paid voices from Speechify's own samples before committing a year.
Can you get a refund on a Speechify subscription?
Only in narrow cases, which is why the yearly plan deserves a free-plan trial first. Speechify's refund policy allows a refund within 7 days of an annual payment if you have used no more than 500 HD words, or if the charge was an error or the account was taken over. Monthly, quarterly and discounted plans are non-refundable, and there are no partial refunds after part of a billing cycle.
Where you buy matters too. The same policy says a subscription bought through Apple's App Store or Google Play is a final sale, governed by the store's own rules, so the 7-day window does not apply. Buying on the web keeps that option open, and the web page prints each price next to its billing period.
What does Speechify Studio cost?
Studio is a different product with a different subscription: Speechify's Studio FAQ calls the Reader and Studio two separate subscriptions. It is a voiceover, dubbing and avatar editor for creators, and its meter is credits, spent per second of audio you generate. Voiceover costs 1 credit a second, dubbing 3 credits a second and avatar video 30 credits a second.
That converts the credit counts into time. Speechify's page translates them for each plan:
| Studio plan | Billing | Credits | Voiceover | Dubbing | Avatar |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | None | 600 | 10 minutes | 3 min 20 s | 20 seconds |
| Starter | $19 a month | 7,200 a month | 2 hours | 40 minutes | 4 minutes |
| Starter | $100 a year | 86,400 a year | 24 hours | 8 hours | 48 minutes |
| Creator | $49 a month | 28,800 a month | 8 hours | 2 h 40 min | 16 minutes |
| Creator | $300 a year | 345,600 a year | 96 hours | 32 hours | 3 h 12 min |
Source: Speechify Studio pricing, 19 October 2026. The Creator monthly dubbing figure is our division of 28,800 credits by 3 credits a second; the page itself prints 3 h 12 min for that cell, which matches the yearly plan's ratio, not the monthly one.
The free Studio plan cannot publish. It has no commercial rights, and the FAQ says you upgrade once you need to download your work as an MP3, so treat it as a demo of the editor rather than a way to ship a video.
What burns Studio credits
Any new generation costs credits, including the same script in the same voice. Speechify's FAQ adds that changing pitch, speed or emotion sends the line back through the AI and costs credits again, while a volume tweak is free and re-exporting unchanged audio is free. A narrator who rerenders a 10-minute script three times while tuning its pace has spent 30 minutes of voiceover, not 10. Studio top-ups exist, and the refund policy says they are final.
Studio per minute, against ElevenLabs
Dividing each plan's price by its voiceover minutes gives a like-for-like cost per generated minute, monthly billing against monthly billing:
| Plan, monthly billing | Price | Voiceover included | Cost per minute (our division) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Speechify Studio Starter | $19/mo | 120 minutes | $0.16 |
| Speechify Studio Creator | $49/mo | 480 minutes | $0.10 |
| ElevenLabs Creator | $22/mo | About 121 minutes | $0.18 |
| ElevenLabs Pro | $99/mo | About 600 minutes | $0.17 |
ElevenLabs figures from ElevenLabs pricing, Creative tab, read 19 October 2026. On yearly billing Studio Creator falls to about $0.05 a minute ($300 for 5,760 minutes), and Starter to about $0.07.
On price per minute, Studio Creator is the cheapest of the four, and it is not close. The comparison ignores what ElevenLabs sells on top: instant voice cloning from its $6 Starter plan, professional cloning on Creator, and one credit pool that also covers music and sound effects. If the voice matters more than the minutes, our ElevenLabs pricing breakdown and the AI voice generators ranking weigh that trade, and Murf AI pricing covers the hour-based meter that a third vendor uses.

What does the Speechify API cost?
The developer API, sold as SpeechifyAI, is billed per character of spoken text, with SSML tags not counted. Each plan's fee adds a month of usage to a dollar balance that expires at the end of the billing period. Past it, a paid plan keeps running at its printed rate against money you have topped up in advance, and a top-up never expires. The free plan stops until next month and cannot top up.
Three scenarios, using only the rates on the SpeechifyAI pricing page:
- An app speaking 5 million characters a month: Starter's fee plus 3.1 million extra characters at Starter's per-million rate comes to $41 in total. Pro would cost $99.
- 10.8 million characters a month is where Starter and Pro cost the same, $99, by our arithmetic. Above it, Pro is cheaper.
- Pro against Scale: Pro at $8 per million past 13.5 million reaches the Scale fee at about 63.5 million characters a month.
API plans have no annual option and no commitment: cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid month, and the workspace drops to Free. Voice cloning is included on every paid plan. The API page also says plainly that a Reader subscription includes no API usage, so a developer who already pays for Premium pays again here.
Where Speechify Audiobooks fits
Speechify also sells an Audiobooks subscription, separate from Premium. Its refund policy describes it as credit-based, with a refund on an annual plan only if no credit was used within 7 days, and à la carte audiobook purchases that are final. Speechify does not print the Audiobooks price on any of its three pricing pages, so check the current price in Speechify's Audiobooks app before subscribing, and do not assume Premium includes narrated audiobooks: the Premium plan lists text-to-speech features, not a human-narrated catalog.
Is Speechify Premium worth it against the alternatives?
For a heavy reader on yearly billing, it can be. ElevenReader is the price to beat: its pricing page lists a free plan with 10 hours of text to audio a month, and Ultra at $11 a month billed monthly or $99 a year billed yearly. Year against year, Speechify Premium costs $40 more than ElevenReader Ultra, and month against month the gap is $18.
What the extra money buys on Speechify is breadth: 5x listening speed, Scan and Listen for paper, cloud imports and voice typing, across more apps. A reader who listens to web articles on a phone gets most of the value from ElevenReader's free tier. A student scanning handouts and listening at high speed across a laptop and a phone is the buyer Speechify Premium is priced for. Our Speechify review covers the app itself, and the text-to-speech software ranking lines up the reading apps and generators side by side.
Which Speechify plan to buy
- Free reader: for occasional articles where the robotic voice is acceptable.
- Premium yearly: for daily listeners, students and anyone with dyslexia or eye strain who reads every day. Skip the monthly toggle unless you will cancel within three months.
- Studio Starter monthly: for one or two narrated videos a month, under 2 hours of voiceover.
- Studio Creator yearly: for a channel publishing weekly, where the per-minute cost drops to about a nickel. Budget credits for rerenders.
- API Starter: for prototypes and apps under about 10 million characters a month; move to Pro above that.
For dubbing at volume, compare Studio's 3-credit-a-second rate against the AI dubbing tools we rank. If you need a cloned voice for narration, how to clone your voice with AI walks through the options, and the cheaper ElevenLabs alternatives list prices the field below ElevenLabs.
How we checked these prices
Louis Corneloup, founder of Dupple and Toolradar, prepared this breakdown for people choosing between Speechify's plans. Reader prices come from Speechify's pricing page, Studio credits and conversions from Speechify Studio pricing, API rates from SpeechifyAI pricing, and refund rules from Speechify's refund policy, all read on 19 October 2026. ElevenLabs and ElevenReader prices come from ElevenLabs pricing and ElevenReader pricing the same day. Per-month, per-minute and break-even figures are our arithmetic on those list prices. Toolradar figures come from its Speechify record and AI voice category in October 2026. Dupple runs no test lab, so nothing here reports hands-on results. Publishing rules sit on the AIpresso about page.
FAQ
How much does Speechify cost in 2026?
Speechify Premium is $29 a month on monthly billing or $139 a year on yearly billing, about $11.58 a month. The reader app also has a free plan with 10 robotic voices at up to 1.5x speed. Studio, for voiceovers, and the developer API are billed as separate subscriptions with their own free plans, so a Premium buyer pays nothing extra unless they need either one.
Is Speechify free?
Yes, with limits. The free reader plan reads text aloud with 10 robotic voices at up to 1.5x speed and leaves out scanning, AI summaries and the natural voices. Studio's free plan gives 600 credits, about 10 minutes of voiceover, with no commercial rights and no MP3 export. The API's free plan covers 500,000 characters a month and then pauses.
Does Speechify Premium include Studio or the API?
No. Speechify bills the Reader app, Studio and the SpeechifyAI developer API as three separate subscriptions, and both the Studio FAQ and the API page say a Reader plan does not include them. A creator who reads with Premium and narrates videos in Studio pays for both.
Is Speechify cheaper billed yearly?
Much cheaper. Premium yearly costs $209 less than twelve monthly payments, and the pricing page calls it a 60% saving. Studio Creator works out to about $0.05 a minute of voiceover on yearly billing against $0.10 on monthly. The catch is the refund window: an annual plan is refundable only within 7 days and only if you have used no more than 500 HD words.
How do Speechify Studio credits work?
Credits are spent per second of generated audio: 1 a second for voiceover, 3 for dubbing and 30 for avatar video. Re-exporting unchanged audio and changing volume are free, but a new script, or a change of pitch, speed or emotion, costs credits again. Starter monthly includes 7,200 credits, enough for 2 hours of voiceover.
Is Speechify better value than ElevenReader?
For reading apps, ElevenReader is cheaper: Ultra on yearly billing costs $40 less than Speechify Premium on yearly billing, and ElevenReader's free plan includes 10 hours of text to audio a month. Speechify justifies that extra cost with 5x speed, Scan and Listen for printed pages, cloud imports and voice typing. A phone-only article listener rarely needs those.
