DeepL Translator Individual is $10.49 per user per month ($8.74 billed annually); Team $34.49 ($28.74 annual); Business $68.99 ($57.49 annual). The API is a second SKU. Google Cloud Translation NMT is $20 per million characters after 500,000 free. Microsoft Translator S1 standard text is $10 per million; F0 includes 2 million characters a month. Phrase Team is $1,245 per month billed annually. Lokalise Explorer is $144 a month, Growth $375, Advanced $999. ChatGPT is a chatbot with a translate prompt, not a product on this list.
AI translation tools are not AI writing tools. Jasper and ChatGPT draft copy in one language. The products here take a source string, a file, or a repo of keys and return another language, with a glossary, a translation memory, or a per-character invoice.
Mixing the two categories is how a team buys Plus seats and still has no TMS.
The invoice splits three ways. DeepL sells seats for people who paste and upload. Google and Microsoft sell characters through an API. Phrase and Lokalise sell a localization platform, then meter words. A screenshot of a translate box does not tell you which bill you are signing.

What it is
An AI translation tool is machine translation, a translation management system, or both. The engine maps source text to a target language. The TMS stores keys, memories, glossaries, vendor tasks and the Git or Figma connector. DeepL, Google Cloud Translation and Azure Translator are engines you call or sit in.
Phrase and Lokalise are the workflow around the engine.
This is not brand-voice blog generation and not a grammar pass. If you wanted those, AIpresso already has writing-tool and chatbot lists, plus a ChatGPT review. Buy those when the job is drafting.
Buy these when the job is shipping German, Japanese or Arabic without retyping the product.
Why it matters
Five DeepL Team seats at the annual rate are about $1,724 a year. Five million characters through Google NMT after the free slice is about $90. The same five million through Microsoft S1 is about $50. Phrase Team is $14,940 a year before extra words.
Lokalise Explorer is $1,728 a year and includes 60,000 processed words. Those numbers are not substitutes for each other.
The other reason is where the text goes. Free consumer translators may keep input for training. Paid DeepL, Google Cloud and Azure are the ones you put a DPA on. A ChatGPT consumer chat is still a chat.

The bottom line
If the job is a person translating documents, buy DeepL Individual or Team and stop there. If the job is an API in the request path, buy Microsoft Translator at $10 per million or Google Cloud Translation at $20 when you need the language list or the LLM/Adaptive options.
Do not pay DeepL API rates for bulk UI strings unless reviewers have already failed the cheaper engines.
If the job is a product catalog, screenshots and a release train, buy a TMS. Lokalise Explorer at $144 is the on-ramp.
Phrase Team at $1,245 is the all-products floor. ChatGPT belongs on the chatbot and writing lists, not on this invoice.
