Team is $28.74 per user on the annual plan. API Growth is a separate product at $26 a month billed annually, then $27.50 per extra million characters.
Business is $57.49 per user on the annual plan, with unlimited characters under a fair-usage footnote, and Write Pro included. The free plan stops at 50,000 characters and one file. Google Cloud Translation bills $20 per million characters after a free slice, and Azure Translator bills $10 per million on S1.

DeepL is the translator to buy when a person pastes text or uploads a file and wants the character cap written down before checkout. The seat and the API are two subscriptions, and paying for one does not turn on the other, so seats alone cannot call the product API.
A five-person team on the annual Team rate pays $1,724.40 a year and still has no API key. The same five million characters on Google's NMT rate, after the free monthly slice, comes to $90. Those are different bills: people in the web app, or volume on an API.

What is DeepL?
DeepL is a translation product for text, documents, and, on the paid translator plans, a short slice of live voice. The about page says it was founded in Cologne in 2017, and that more than 200,000 business teams rely on it.
The API language table lists 114 languages plus 11 regional variants. Glossaries are turned on for 32 of those languages, so a terminology list will not cover every locale, and a missing language means adding another engine.
On a paid plan, your text is not used to train models. The pricing FAQ says Pro content is kept only as long as the service needs it, then deleted, and is never used for training. The free plan does not make that promise, so confidential source belongs on Pro. The same FAQ names ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II.
ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini can translate a paste, and they do not sell a character cap or a shared glossary.

How DeepL works
You paste text or upload a file, and the plan's character counter is the meter. Free allows one file up to 5 MB, enough for one short document. Individual allows three files up to 30 MB, enough for a few long documents, not a catalog.
Team allows 20 files at that same ceiling, plus bulk upload, so a group can send a batch without Business. Business allows 100 files up to 100 MB and calls characters unlimited under a fair-usage footnote with no published number.
The glossary stays too small for a term base until Team. Free and Individual allow one glossary with five entries, enough for a product name, not a style guide. Team allows five glossaries, 1,000 entries per language pair, sharing, and a CSV upload.
Business removes the glossary cap and adds translation memory, which the Team card does not list.
Thirty minutes of DeepL Voice are included per user each month on Individual, Team, and Business, enough for a short meeting and not a day of calls. Write Pro is $7.49 per user a month billed annually on Individual and Team. The Business card includes it, so skip the add-on if you already need Business.
A Translator subscription does not become an API key, and you cannot switch the products in place. You cancel and buy the API after the period ends, or you keep the API and buy Translator under a second email. One path waits out prepaid time, and the other splits the login.

DeepL publishes the ladder on its pricing page, verified September 2026 on the US storefront. Annual billing is 16% below the month-to-month rate on Individual, Team, and Business, and the year is charged up front, so a midyear cancel does not refund unused months. Enterprise is a quote you cannot model from the public ladder.
The Germany storefront, checked the same day, is a different sticker. Individual is €7.49 a month billed annually, Team is €24.99 per user, and Business is €49.99 per user, VAT included, so a European checkout will not match these dollar figures. Write Pro on that page is €6.99 per user a month on the annual term.
The API catalog is a second set of SKUs. Growth's monthly base is the $32.50 figure, and the yearly base is $26 a month, so buy the annual base if traffic will last the year.
DeepL's API billing help says a monthly term includes 1 million characters and 10 hours of speech-to-text. A yearly term includes 12 million characters and 120 hours of speech-to-text.
Past that pool, overage characters are $27.50 per million. A monthly Growth account that sends 5 million characters pays the base plus four extra million, which is $142.50 before speech.
Growth also stops at 300 speech-to-text hours a month, so live voice is capped on this plan. Growth's plan description includes maximum data security, with texts deleted after the request. The free Developer plan does not list that promise, so keep confidential text off that key.
Google Cloud Translation prices NMT at the per-million list rate in the table. The first 500,000 are free, shared by Basic and Advanced, so the editions do not stack. The price is per character sent to the API.
The $18 and $16 columns are opt-in savings plans, not the default budget. Document pages on the NMT path are $0.08, the file rate rather than the string rate.
Azure Translator F0 includes 2 million characters a month and no seat, which suits volume you already run in Azure. Document translation costs more per million than plain text. Custom text translation is $40 per million, and training has a $300 ceiling per run.
Phrase is a localization platform, not a translator seat. Team's price in the table buys reviewers and a word pool rather than a character cap. Freelancer is the one-person plan on that annual term.
Professional and Software UI/UX share the mid-tier annual rate, and Business and Enterprise are quotes. Human translation inside Phrase Strings starts at $0.06 a word when a person still has to finish the string.
Lokalise meters processed words and advanced seats, and a monthly term costs more than the yearly term, so skipping the annual contract raises the bill. Advanced publishes no monthly price, so a month-to-month contract is not offered.
Yearly Explorer includes 240,000 standard machine-translation words, a finite pool above the processed-word floor. Translation Flow, an add-on on Business and Enterprise, publishes no list price.

Buy API Growth when software calls DeepL, and keep translator seats separate if people also use the web app, because the two products do not merge. Skip DeepL for a localization platform, because Phrase and Lokalise include reviewer seats and a word pool. Skip it for raw character volume on an API you already run in Google Cloud or Azure.

DeepL is the right buy when the work is a person translating text and files, and the character cap on the card matches the month. Individual is a personal plan with a hard character ceiling, and Team is the shared-glossary plan. Business is the plan that includes Write Pro and translation memory.
Choose Google or Azure when finance wants a per-million character rate and already lives in that cloud. Choose Phrase when the missing piece is a TMS, reviewers, and a word pool measured in millions.
