Captions Pricing 2026: Plans, Credits and Mirage Avatars

Captions pricing in 2026: Max at $24.99 a month for 500 credits, Frontier from $69.99 to $279.99, what a Mirage avatar video costs in credits and which plan fits.

Captions Pricing 2026: Plans, Credits and Mirage Avatars

Captions (the video app built by Mirage) costs $24.99 a month for Max with 500 AI credits, and $69.99, $139.99 or $279.99 a month for Frontier with 1,400, 2,800 or 5,600 credits, read on Captions' pricing page in October 2026. Enterprise is a custom quote, and a Free plan exists with a small, one-time credit grant.

Our view: the credit allowance is the only thing you are really choosing. Every paid tier works out to about 5 cents per credit, so a bigger plan buys more generation, not cheaper generation. Max is the plan to price first if you edit your own footage; anyone producing Mirage avatar ads every week should start the math at Frontier, because a single one-minute avatar video eats about a third of Max's monthly credits.

Toolradar data: among the 17 subtitle and caption tools compared on Captions' Toolradar page as of October 2026, 16 have a free plan, so a free tier is the norm in this category rather than a perk. Captions is listed as an alternative to 4 tools, #8 of 17, against a peer median of 3.

Plan Monthly price (USD) AI credits per month Who it fits
Free $0 60 to 200, one-time, no refresh Trimming, captions with one template, testing the app
Basic (help center only) $9.99 200 Captions, eye contact and denoise on your own clips
Max $24.99 500 Creators using AI Edit, Clips and occasional avatar videos
Frontier $69.99 1,400 Weekly avatar ads or B-roll-heavy edits
Frontier 2x $139.99 2,800 Small teams or daily generated video
Frontier 4x $279.99 5,600 High-volume production; the only self-serve tier with top-ups
Enterprise Custom quote Bulk credits at a discount Companies needing seats, onboarding and training data exclusion

Captions labels these as its iOS plan prices in USD. Its help center adds that checkout can show a local-currency price that sits above or below the dollar figure.

What the Captions plans include

The pricing page shows three cards: Max, Frontier with a 1x, 2x and 4x usage selector, and Enterprise. Two more paid tiers live only in the help center's Subscriptions and Plans article, which matters if you are hunting for the cheapest way to drop the upgrade prompts.

Basic at $9.99 a month (it was called Pro until the rename) comes with 200 credits and covers the manual and lighter AI tools: Reddit to Video, the script generator, camera and teleprompter, caption and dub, eye contact, denoise, censor, zoom, voiceover, title cards and trim. It leaves out the features most people buy Captions for. If you use AI Edit, the chat-based Co-Editor or AI-generated media on Basic, the watermark help article says your export carries a watermark until you remove them or upgrade to Max.

Lite at $4.99 a month is an Android-only plan for manual editing, captions, dubbing and eye contact. It cannot be restored on iPhone or desktop, so a creator who switches devices pays again for Basic, Max or Frontier.

Max is where the generative features start. The help center lists Chat to Edit, AI Edit, Clips, Mirage-generated actors, up to 30 AI Twins and up to 2 videos generating at once, plus a choice of models for AI media, sound effects and music. The pricing page adds 100+ caption templates, against one on the Free plan.

Frontier adds faster generations and what Captions calls its most sophisticated tier of generative models on top of everything in Max. The 2x and 4x selector doubles and quadruples both the price and the credits, nothing else, so treat it as a credit dial rather than a new plan.

Enterprise has no list price. Captions lists bulk credit discounts, custom seat options, a dedicated account team, training data exclusion, onboarding and early access to beta features, with a contact form for a quote.

How Captions credits work

Credits pay for generation, not for editing. Every AI feature that generates images, video, sounds, music, voiceovers, prompt-to-video projects or AI Edits draws from your monthly balance, according to Captions' Understanding Credits article. Trimming, captions and other manual tools do not.

The cost of a feature depends on what it generates and which model you pick:

Feature or model Credit cost listed by Captions
Prompt to Video (Mirage avatar video) 16 credits per 6 seconds
AI Edit 10 to 40 credits, by duration and settings
Chat-based editing 2 credits per message, 1 per action, plus any generation
Generated image 1 to 6 credits (Flux 2 is 1, Nano Banana Pro is 6)
Generated video clip 8 to 140 credits (Sora 2 is 16, Veo 3.1 Fast is 36 per 6 seconds, Kling 2.1 is 140)
Generated music 1 to 10 credits, by model
Audio isolation 2 credits per minute

Model choice moves the bill more than the plan does. One Kling 2.1 clip costs as much as 140 Flux 2 images, so check the model picker before you generate.

Unused credits roll over on Basic and above, but your balance is capped at three times the monthly allowance. That ceiling is 1,500 credits on Max and 4,200 on Frontier by our arithmetic, so banking a quiet month only helps up to two months ahead.

What a Mirage avatar video costs

Prompt to Video, the feature that writes a script and puts a Mirage-generated presenter on camera, is the most expensive thing most buyers will run. At 16 credits per 6 seconds, a full minute of avatar footage uses 160 credits. At the roughly 5 cents a credit that every tier works out to, that minute is worth about $8 of your allowance (our arithmetic on Captions' printed prices and credit counts).

Here is what that rate means per plan, ignoring rollover and any other generation in the same month:

Plan Monthly credits One-minute avatar videos per month 30-second avatar ads per month
Max 500 3 6
Frontier 1,400 8 17
Frontier 2x 2,800 17 35
Frontier 4x 5,600 35 70

Generated B-roll comes out of the same pool. Add three Veo 3.1 Fast clips to a one-minute video and it needs 268 credits, so Max covers only one such video a month. Creating extra looks for a custom avatar also uses credits, per the avatars help article, which does not give a fixed cost per look.

The avatar library itself costs nothing extra. Captions lists 200+ ready-made avatars and the Mirage Avatar X model, and you can describe a new presenter in a text prompt or record yourself to build an AI twin. The script for AI Creator videos is capped at one minute and 800 characters, so a longer talk means several generations.

Which Captions plan fits your month

These scenarios add up Captions' listed credit rates and match the total to the smallest allowance that covers it, so the price is whatever the summary table shows for that plan. Every figure is our arithmetic, and a real AI Edit can land anywhere in the 10 to 40 credit range Captions gives.

Monthly workload Credits used Cheapest plan that fits
12 talking-head videos, each with AI Edit at the top of its range 480 Max
8 avatar ads of 30 seconds 640 Frontier
8 avatar ads of 30 seconds, each with three Veo 3.1 Fast B-roll clips 1,504 Frontier 2x
Captions, eye contact and denoise on your own footage, no generation Close to 0 Basic

The second row is the one to watch. Eight short avatar ads sit 140 credits over the Max allowance, and Captions does not sell top-ups on standard plans, so the only fix is upgrading to Frontier at nearly three times the price. If your volume hovers around 500 credits, rollover is the cheap buffer: a light month on Max can cover the overflow of a busy one.

Monthly or yearly billing?

Captions sells yearly plans billed 12 months upfront at what its pricing FAQ calls a discounted rate. Its pricing page and help center quote monthly prices only, so the dollar figures on this page are monthly billing, and the yearly charge is something to read on the checkout screen before you commit.

The trade-off is flexibility. Monthly plans bought on the website are non-refundable but can be cancelled at any time, effective at the end of the billing period, per the cancellation help article. App Store and Google Play subscriptions are billed and refunded by Apple or Google, not by Captions, and deleting the app does not cancel anything.

Costs and limits that are easy to miss

  • Downgrades cut your balance. Moving down a tier trims your credits to the new plan's cap immediately. A Frontier user holding a full 4,200 credits who drops to Max keeps 1,500 and forfeits 2,700 (our arithmetic).
  • Cancelling forfeits everything. Remaining credits expire when the paid period ends; they do not follow you to a later resubscription.
  • No top-ups below Frontier 4x. The credits troubleshooting article says individual top-ups are not available on standard plans, only to Frontier 4x users and existing Teams or Business customers.
  • Free credits do not refresh. The Free plan's 60 to 200 credits are a lifetime grant, and using any paid feature in a project triggers an upgrade prompt.
  • One subscriber, one person. Captions says subscriptions are for single users and cannot be shared, so a team of three needs three plans or an Enterprise quote.
  • Upgrades are prorated, downgrades wait. An upgrade applies at once with a prorated charge; a downgrade keeps the current plan until the billing cycle ends.

How Captions pricing compares with HeyGen and OpusClip

Captions sits between an avatar generator and a clipping tool, so the fair comparison depends on which half you need. Prices below are monthly billing, read on each vendor's pricing page in October 2026.

Tool Entry paid plan, monthly billing What the allowance covers
Captions Max, $24.99/mo Shared credits for avatars, AI Edit, B-roll and music
HeyGen Creator, $29/mo 600 HeyGen credits; Pro is $49/mo for 1,000
OpusClip Starter, $15/mo 150 upload minutes of clipping; Pro is $29/mo for 300

For avatar presenters, HeyGen is the closer rival. HeyGen's pricing page puts Creator at $29 a month with 600 credits and Avatar III and IV, and Business at $149 a month with 1,500 credits and a shared workspace. The two vendors' credits buy different things, so compare finished minutes rather than credit counts. Captions is the better fit when you also edit real footage on a phone; HeyGen when the avatar video is the whole product. Our HeyGen pricing breakdown has its tier detail, and HeyGen on Toolradar has the product record.

For turning long recordings into shorts, OpusClip is cheaper to start. OpusClip's pricing page lists Starter at $15 a month and Pro at $29 a month, and its plans help article gives 150 and 300 processing minutes. Captions' Clips feature accepts files up to three hours, but it needs Max, so clipping alone costs more on Captions. See OpusClip pricing and OpusClip on Toolradar.

If you mainly need an editor rather than generation, Descript pricing and CapCut pricing cover cheaper routes, and Descript vs CapCut weighs the two.

Is Captions worth paying for?

For a creator who films themselves and wants AI Edit, Clips and the occasional generated presenter, the Max plan is a fair price for a lot of features in one app. Our Captions AI review covers the editing side in depth.

It gets expensive the moment avatars become the main output. Because the per-credit price never drops on the self-serve tiers, a team making a few dozen avatar ads a month pays a straight multiple of the Max rate, and that is the point to ask for an Enterprise quote with bulk credit discounts. How we checked these prices

Louis Corneloup, founder of Dupple and Toolradar, prepared this breakdown for people choosing a Captions plan. Plan prices, credits and limits were read in October 2026 on Captions' pricing page and in its help center articles on subscriptions and plans, credits and AI usage, credit rollover and billing. HeyGen and OpusClip figures come from their own pricing pages the same month. The category figures come from Toolradar's Captions record. Dupple has no test lab; nothing here comes from running the product. Publishing rules sit on the AIpresso about page.

FAQ

How much does Captions cost in 2026?

Captions Max costs $24.99 a month with 500 AI credits, and Frontier costs $69.99, $139.99 or $279.99 a month with 1,400, 2,800 or 5,600 credits. The help center also lists Basic at $9.99 with 200 credits and an Android-only Lite plan at $4.99. Enterprise is quoted by sales. These are the monthly USD prices Captions listed in October 2026.

Is Captions free?

Yes, Captions has a Free plan with basic trimming, transitions, one caption template and 60 to 200 credits that never refresh. Using a paid feature such as AI Edit in a project triggers an upgrade prompt, so the Free plan suits light manual edits and testing rather than regular AI-generated video.

How many credits does a Mirage avatar video use?

Prompt to Video, which generates a video with a Mirage presenter, uses 16 credits per 6 seconds, so a one-minute video uses 160 credits and a 30-second ad uses 80. On Max's monthly allowance that is three one-minute avatar videos, before any generated B-roll or music.

What is the difference between Captions Max and Frontier?

Max includes AI Edit, Clips, chat editing, Mirage actors and up to 30 AI Twins, which covers most solo creators who edit their own footage. Frontier, at $69.99 a month, costs nearly three times as much and adds almost three times the credits, faster generations and Captions' top tier of generative models; its 2x and 4x options scale price and credits together and add nothing else, so pick Frontier only when your monthly generation outgrows Max.

Do Captions credits roll over?

Yes, on Basic and above unused credits carry into the next month, but your total balance is capped at three times your monthly allowance. Downgrading trims the balance to the lower plan's cap at once, and cancelling forfeits all remaining credits when the paid period ends.

Can I buy extra Captions credits?

Not on most plans. Captions says individual credit top-ups are only available to Frontier 4x subscribers and existing Teams or Business customers. Everyone else gets more credits by upgrading, which means jumping from Max straight to Frontier at nearly three times the price.

Is Captions cheaper than HeyGen?

At entry level, yes: Captions Max costs a few dollars less a month than HeyGen Creator at $29, both on monthly billing. Their credits are not equivalent, though, so compare the number of finished avatar minutes each gives you. Captions adds a full phone-first editor, while HeyGen's tiers are built around avatar video and translation.
