Photoroom Review 2026: Pricing, Pros, Cons and Who It Suits

What Photoroom's Pro, Max and Ultra plans include, how far the credits and exports stretch for a product catalog, and four priced alternatives.

TL;DR

Photoroom is worth paying for if you sell physical products online and export hundreds of listing images a month. Pro costs $7.50 a month billed yearly or $12.99 month to month, Max $20.99 billed yearly or $34.99 monthly, and Ultra $82.50 billed yearly or $99 monthly, read on Photoroom's pricing page on October 21, 2026.

The catch is the two meters. Every paid plan caps monthly exports and meters generative tools in AI credits that reset each month with no carryover. The free plan exports 100 images a month for personal use only, so any shop needs a paid plan.

Photoroom started as a background remover and is now a product photo studio that also stages scenes, dresses AI fashion models and makes short product videos. That breadth is why it sits at the top of our best AI product photography tools list, and also why its pricing needs a closer read than a single monthly figure.

This review is for an online seller, marketplace reseller or small brand choosing between Photoroom's Free, Pro, Max and Ultra plans, or between Photoroom and a cheaper single-purpose tool. It covers what each plan costs on monthly and yearly billing, what the credits and export caps buy, what the free plan withholds, and where Photoroom is the wrong pick. Every figure comes from Photoroom's pricing page and its help center, read on October 21, 2026. We ran no image tests, so output quality is left to the 7-day trial.

What is Photoroom?

Photoroom is an AI photo editor for product images, available on the web, iPhone, iPad, Android and as a Shopify app. Its core tools remove and replace backgrounds, retouch objects, add preset shadows, expand or resize an image and enhance quality. Its credit-based tools generate studio backgrounds, AI fashion models, product videos and free-form edits from a text prompt.

Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 171 image editing tools as of October 2026, and 66% of them have a free plan, according to Toolradar's image editing statistics. A free tier is the norm in this category, so Photoroom's free plan is a trial of the editor rather than a reason to choose it. Its directory record is Photoroom on Toolradar.

Work happens in Spaces, which are shared workspaces with their own plan. Each Space needs its own subscription, and every paid plan allows up to 50 seats in a Space, so a team shares one credit pool and one export allowance rather than paying per person.

How Photoroom works

Two allowances govern every paid plan. Exports count every image you save, download, batch or sync to Shopify, one per image, and cover files up to 2K. AI credits pay for the generative tools. Background removal, white backgrounds and templates draw no credits, so a seller who only cuts out products spends exports, not credits.

The pricing page translates each plan's credits into generations per tool. Pro's monthly credits buy up to 1,600 AI Images or 4,000 basic AI Backgrounds Studio scenes, which works out to 5 credits per AI image and 2 per basic background, our division of Photoroom's figures. Max's 25,000 credits cover up to 50 Video Generator runs, or about 500 credits per video, so video eats the pool fast.

Credits renew monthly even on yearly billing and expire at the end of each cycle, per Photoroom's AI credits help article. Hit the export cap and exports pause until the next cycle unless you upgrade. Photoroom also notes that the monthly credit amount can vary by country or region.

Photoroom key features

Core tools with no credit costEssential
Background Remover, Retouch, AI Product Fixer, preset AI Shadows, AI Fill, AI Expand and Image Enhancer are included on every paid plan within fair-use limits. Only exports limit how many finished images leave the app.
Batch editingEssential
Batch applies one edit to many product photos at once, and each image in a batch counts as one export. A 300-product catalog refresh therefore uses 300 exports, a third of Pro's monthly allowance.
AI Backgrounds Studio and AI Fashion Models
Generated studio scenes and on-model shots replace a photo shoot for lifestyle and apparel images. Pro is limited to 1K fashion images, Max adds 2K and Ultra adds 4K.
Product Video Generator
Short product videos start on Max, with up to 50 generations a month, and Ultra raises that to 150. Pro has no video, which is the main reason sellers move up a tier.
Shopify integration and API
Shopify sync starts on Max. Each paid plan also includes a wallet of API and MCP credits worth the plan's price, charged at API rates, for automating edits.

Photoroom pricing

Photoroom's pricing page lists three self-serve plans and Enterprise, read on October 21, 2026, with VAT included. Pro, the entry plan, carries the smallest credit pool and export cap of the three, which suits a shop listing a few hundred images a month. Max is $34.99 monthly or $20.99 billed yearly, with 25,000 credits, 3,000 exports, video and Shopify. Ultra is $99 monthly or $82.50 billed yearly, with 75,000 credits, 10,000 exports and 4K output. Enterprise is a custom annual contract.

Yearly billing matters most on Pro. The yearly rate is 42% below the monthly one on Pro, 40% on Max and only 17% on Ultra, our arithmetic on the printed prices. Twelve months of Pro on monthly billing come to $155.88, against about $90 at the yearly rate.

Per exported image, the plans land close together. Used to the full export cap, Pro costs 1.3 cents an image on monthly billing and 0.75 cents billed yearly, Max 1.2 cents or 0.7 cents, and Ultra about 1 cent or 0.8 cents, again our division. A shop exporting 600 listing images a month fits inside Pro and pays about 1.25 cents an image at the yearly rate.

The free trial article limits the 7-day trial to yearly Pro and Max, once per customer, with the first charge on day 8. Ultra has no standard trial, and mobile subscriptions are billed through the App Store or Google Play. Photoroom refunds purchases up to one week after payment.

Who Photoroom is for

Photoroom fits a reseller or small brand that lists products every week and wants clean white-background shots plus the occasional styled scene from one app. Marketplace sellers on a phone get the same tools as desktop users, and a team of up to 50 can share one plan. Apparel sellers gain the most from Max, which adds 2K on-model images, video and Shopify sync.

Skip Photoroom if you only need background removal for a few images a month, where the options in best free AI background removers cost nothing, or the paid field in best AI background removers may be cheaper per image. If you edit portraits or landscapes rather than products, start with best AI photo editors or the $0 picks in best free AI photo editors. For enlarging low-resolution supplier photos, see best AI image upscalers.

The bottom line

Photoroom is the pick for sellers who need volume, and Pro billed yearly is the cheapest serious entry point. At the yearly rate it gives a team unlimited core edits, enough exports for a small catalog and credits for thousands of basic generated backgrounds. Move to Max only when you want product videos, 2K on-model shots or Shopify sync, and to Ultra only when 3,000 exports a month is not enough or you need 4K.

Skip it if you export a handful of images a month, where a free background remover does the job, or if you only want generated scenes, where Pebblely sells a fixed number of images per plan and Claid.ai a credit pool. Pixelcut is the closest rival for background removal at volume, and it costs less than Photoroom on monthly billing. The full field, with Pixelcut, Claid.ai and Botika ranked, is in best AI product photography tools, and Adobe's plans are broken down in Adobe Firefly pricing. To restore old supplier shots first, see best free AI image upscalers.

Methodology: this review quotes only figures read on October 21, 2026 on Photoroom's pricing page and its help center articles on export limits, AI credits and free trials, plus the pricing pages of Pixelcut, Pebblely, Claid.ai and Adobe Firefly, and the Toolradar category count. Per-image and per-credit costs are our division of those printed prices. Toolradar also keeps tool pages for Pixelcut, Pebblely, Claid.ai and Adobe Firefly.

Frequently asked questions

Is Photoroom worth it in 2026?

For a seller exporting hundreds of product images a month, yes. Pro billed yearly gives a team of up to 50 seats unlimited background removal, retouching and resizing plus a monthly AI credit pool, which works out to under a cent per exported image at full use, our arithmetic. For a few images a month, a free background remover is enough.

How much does Photoroom cost?

Photoroom's pricing page lists Pro at $12.99 a month or $7.50 a month billed yearly, Max at $34.99 monthly or $20.99 billed yearly, and Ultra at $99 monthly or $82.50 billed yearly, read on October 21, 2026, with VAT included. Enterprise is a custom annual contract. Ultra also comes in larger tiers with more credits and exports.

Is Photoroom free?

There is a free plan, but it allows 100 exports a month, 25 a week, with lower daily limits on the core tools. Photoroom's terms restrict free accounts to personal, non-commercial use, so selling products with free-plan images is not allowed. Yearly Pro and Max include a 7-day free trial for first-time subscribers.

Do Photoroom AI credits roll over?

No. AI credits renew every month, including on yearly plans, and unused credits expire at the end of each cycle. Credits refund automatically when a generation fails for a technical reason. Background removal, white backgrounds and templates use no credits at all, only exports.

Photoroom vs Pixelcut: which is cheaper?

On yearly billing, Pixelcut Pro costs $8 a month, 50 cents more than Photoroom Pro, and both include 1,000 exports a month. Photoroom Pro carries 8,000 AI credits and up to 50 seats, while Pixelcut Pro has 600 credits and a 3-person team, so Photoroom gives more generative headroom for slightly less.
