ElevenLabs is the voice platform to buy when the read has to sound like a person and you will do the credit math before you generate. The model and the product decide the invoice, and the sticker price is the smaller part of that decision.

A multilingual render spends the pool one way, a dubbed cut spends it another, and a phone agent is a third meter.

ElevenLabs is an AI audio company with three platforms on one account, so the plan is not a single app. ElevenCreative is the studio for speech, music, image, and video, and ElevenAgents covers voice and chat agents. ElevenAPI is developer access to the same models, so a producer and an engineer share one wallet.

The about page describes that split, and the pricing page sells all three under the same plan names.

Credits are the meter, and the billing docs still treat them as the old character unit, so a character quote still matches the invoice. One pool covers the studio and the API, and speech, transcription, music, sound effects, voice changer, and dubbing all draw it down. A month spent on music is a month you cannot narrate.

Cloning starts on Starter, the line that matters when a paid read has to sound like a specific person. The free plan's three custom voice slots are for Voice Design, not a clone, and Voice Library saves do not use a slot. Attribution is required on free-plan audio, and that credit still does not make the clip commercial.

You paste a script or upload audio, pick a voice and a model, and the product shows the credit cost before you generate, so you can drop a take that would empty the month. Credits are charged per generation, not per download, so exporting the same file twice does not double the bill.

A repeat take can be free when the content and the settings stay the same, and the screen says so before you spend.

The model is the rate card, and V2 Multilingual text to speech is 1 credit per character. Flash and Turbo, on the API, cost between 0.5 and 1 credit per character, so the faster model covers more of the same script.

The pricing comparison treats about 1,000 credits as a minute of multilingual speech, which makes the free line a listening test rather than client audio.

Other products share that pool, so a side job spends the narration budget. Speech to text is 330 credits a minute, Eleven Music is 900, and a sound effect is 200 per generation. Voice changer or isolator is 1,000 credits a minute of audio, separate from that speech rule of thumb.

Unused paid credits roll for up to two months, up to three times the monthly quota, if you stay subscribed, so a quiet month can fund the next launch. The free line does not roll, so an unused free balance is gone at the reset. Cancel or downgrade and unused paid credits expire at the end of the cycle, so leaving early wastes audio you already paid for.

New plans can buy Pay As You Go credits that last 12 months and apply after the monthly quota is gone.

ElevenLabs publishes the ladder on its pricing page, verified September 2026. The jump that changes the buy is the seat, not the next credit tier. Starter is the first plan that lets a client file ship.

Creator adds the professional clone and the larger pool, with a one-time half-off first month, so the intro invoice is a poor guide to month two.

Pro adds 44.1 kHz PCM through the API, the plan when you need uncompressed audio. Scale is the first plan with more than one full seat, and Business is the plan when that roster is still too small. Business lists low-latency speech as low as 5 cents a minute, the rate to set next to a phone-agent quote. Enterprise is the quote for SSO, HIPAA BAAs, and anything past the self-serve seat cap.

Five full seats cost the Business price, because Scale stops at 3 and Creator cannot buy seats. Pro, Scale, and Business can add full seats up to the self-serve cap, and each added seat brings more credits, but that dollar rate lives in workspace settings.

Five people who share one generator can stay on Creator: it includes 20 basic seats, and each basic user may spend at most 50,000 creative credits from the shared pool, not a private allotment.

Twenty people fit on Business if half of them accept a basic seat, and twenty full seats pass the self-serve cap into Enterprise, which has no public price. Annual Business is $825 a month, $9,900 for the year, the figure to budget if you will not pay month to month.

Extra speech minutes on the comparison table are about $0.36, $0.20, $0.18, and $0.17 from Free through Pro, cheaper on higher plans and still a habit to avoid. Prices exclude taxes, and that table lists 74 languages, so a multilingual catalog does not need a second speech vendor.

Cartesia includes unlimited seats on every plan, so a live agent can add operators without copying the invoice. Startup adds professional clone slots and a larger minute pool. Agent calls are $0.06 a minute on top of credits, and a phone number is a further line, so the credit pack is not the whole bill. Optional Pro overage is $65 per million credits when the agent outruns the included pool.

Murf meters hours for one user, which fits a solo marketer and blocks a team. A weekly show should pay for Creator Lite yearly, because the monthly cap is the tight bucket, while Business Plus buys more hours for that same single user. The free workspace keeps downloads off, and a second editor is an Enterprise quote.

WellSaid meters downloaded minutes, so retakes stay off the bill until you export. Five users on the annual Business price are $800 a month, and twenty users are Enterprise, so a training group leaves self-serve quickly.

Starter and Pro stay in English, so a course that leaves English needs another vendor or a sales quote.

The Speechify API bills characters, and the free plan is one you may ship, unlike the ElevenLabs free license. It pauses when the allowance is empty instead of billing you, so a spike cannot run up the card.

Starter adds seats, Scale fits a larger API workspace, the included balance expires, and a top-up does not. Voice agents are quoted, so a phone product cannot assume this card covers the call.

Buy Starter if you are one person shipping a short paid voiceover and you will stay near half an hour a month. It is the first plan you can publish, and you do not yet need a professional clone. Buy Creator if you need a professional clone or you will dub, and treat a clean dub as a short month rather than a long one.

Buy Business when the roster needs more full seats than Scale includes, and budget the seat line as the plan price, because extra seats are not a published add-on rate.

Skip ElevenLabs when the job is a live agent with a headcount. Cartesia Pro keeps unlimited seats on the entry paid plan, and the Speechify API seats 25 people on Scale. Skip it when finance wants a downloaded minute rather than a generated character: WellSaid charges the export, and Murf charges generation hours for one user.

A filmed face belongs in AI video generators, and music belongs in AI music generators, because either job spends this pool inside the same account.
