Murf AI Review 2026
Murf bills generated hours per user, so the cheapest plan depends on how many hours you render and whether you pay yearly.
Murf is worth it in 2026 for one person who renders a known number of hours each month. Creator Lite is $29 a month for 2 hours of generation, or $228 a year for 24 hours, and it is the cheapest Murf plan that lets a finished file ship. Business Plus is $199 a month for 20 hours and 200 projects, still for one user.
The catch is the meter. Murf bills generated speech by the user, so five people on monthly Creator Lite pay $145 a month whether or not they render a word, and annual billing cuts the cost per generated minute from about $0.24 to about $0.16. Speechify's API bills characters and WellSaid bills downloaded minutes, so the cheaper vendor depends on which unit your job spends.
Key factsBest for: One person who needs a commercial voiceover each month and…
- A browser voice studio that bills generated hours per user, with commercial rights from Creator Lite.
- Free plan: 10 minutes of generation, no downloads
- Cheapest paid Murf plan: 2 hours a month, or 24 hours a year, for one user
- Lowest cost per generated minute: About $0.11 a generated minute on Business Plus billed yearly
- Users per self-serve plan: One user on every Murf card
Pros
- Creator Lite includes unlimited downloads and commercial rights, so a paid voiceover ships on the cheapest paid card.
- Yearly billing gives 24 hours on Creator Lite for $228, about $0.16 a generated minute against $0.24 monthly.
- Unused free minutes carry into a paid plan as additional minutes, so the 10-minute trial is not wasted.
Cons
- Every self-serve card is one user, so five people need five cards, or $145 a month on Creator Lite monthly.
- Subscriptions are not refundable, and a cancelled plan keeps access only until the end of the billing cycle.
- The free plan has no downloads and no commercial rights, so it cannot hold a client file.
Murf sells voiceover by the hour of generated speech, not by the word or the download, and that one choice decides which plan is cheap. It stops being the cheap option once a second person needs a seat, because every self-serve card on the pricing page is priced for one user.
This review starts with the plan ladder on Murf's own pricing page, turns each tier into a cost per generated minute, and sets it beside WellSaid and Speechify, which bill differently.

Toolradar data: of the 125 AI voice tools we track as of October 10, 2026, 70% are free, freemium or open source, and the median cheapest paid plan is $10.50 a month across the 40 that publish a price. Murf sits above that median on its entry paid plan, and its free plan has no downloads.
How we compared: all prices were verified on each vendor's pricing page in October 2026, and the per-minute and seat figures are our arithmetic on those prices. We did not test the audio itself. Murf links are affiliate links, so we may earn a commission if you buy through them.
What is Murf?
Murf is a browser voice studio. You write or paste a script, pick one of its AI voices, render the speech and export the audio.
The pricing page sells that studio in tiers from Free to Business Plus, plus an Enterprise quote, and the plan decides three things: how many hours of generated speech you get, how many projects the workspace can hold, and whether you can download the file and use it commercially.
Hours of generation are the meter. The page defines them as the sum of the speech length of every new or changed text block you render. Changing the voice, style, pitch, speed, pauses, emphasis or punctuation on the same text does not use more time, so the meter moves when the words move. That suits a script you tune by ear, but a script you rewrite spends the budget again.
Business Plus adds an AI voice changer and a business license for e-learning, training and product videos. The studio cards on this page do not include an API, so an app that generates speech on demand needs a different vendor. The Speechify section below covers that case.
The Free plan is a real test but not a usable file. It gives 10 minutes of generation and 2 projects, with no downloads and no commercial rights, so the output stays inside Murf. The FAQ also says unused free minutes move to your account as additional minutes after an upgrade, so the free time you have left is not lost on upgrade.
How Murf works
You build a project, paste the script, choose a voice and render. Each project uses one slot from the plan's cap: 5 on Creator Lite, 30 on Creator Plus, 50 on Business Lite and 200 on Business Plus. Those caps are not refreshed each month.
A finished project holds its slot until you delete it, and the FAQ says you free a slot by deleting a project or moving to a bigger plan.
Monthly and yearly pools behave differently. A monthly plan caps you at 2 hours in each month on Creator Lite. A yearly plan gives 24 hours for the year and has no monthly cap, so you can spend 6 hours in one month and none in the next.
The yearly price works out to $19 a month, and the pool is the same 24 hours whether you spend it evenly or in one burst.
Payment terms are the other part of the mechanics. The FAQ says payments already made on monthly or annual subscriptions are not eligible for a refund, and that a cancelled plan keeps its access until the end of the current billing cycle.
You can switch from monthly to yearly at any time, but that does not refund the monthly payment already made, so switch when you are sure of the yearly volume.
Murf key features
Murf pricing
Murf publishes the ladder on its pricing page, read in October 2026. The step that changes the decision is the cap, not the next tier. Creator Lite is Murf's cheapest paid plan and the first with commercial rights.
Creator Plus doubles the hours to 4 and lifts the projects to 30 for $49. Business Plus is for heavier monthly use: $199 buys 20 hours and 200 projects, about $0.17 a generated minute on monthly billing.
Annual billing is where the cost per minute falls. Creator Lite yearly is $228 for 24 hours, which is $19 a month, a 34.5% saving on twelve monthly payments.
The other tiers save about a third as well: Creator Plus yearly is $396 against $588 monthly, Business Lite yearly is $792 against $1,188, and Business Plus yearly is $1,596 against $2,388. That is a saving of $120 to $792 a year, depending on the tier.
Team math is arithmetic on those cards. Five people on Creator Lite monthly pay $145 a month, or $1,740 a year. Five people on Business Plus monthly pay $995 a month, or $11,940 a year, and the yearly version of the same five cards is $7,980.
Each card is one user's allowance, so five cards give five separate pools. A team that wants shared projects should ask Murf for the Enterprise quote instead of multiplying the card.
WellSaid meters downloaded minutes, not generations, and its team plan is priced per seat. Starter bills $120 a year for 240 download minutes, about $0.50 a minute, and Business is $160 a seat a month billed yearly for 2,880 download minutes a year per user.
Speechify's API bills characters: Starter covers 1.9M characters, Pro is $99 for 13.5M characters and Scale is $499 for 78M. Murf publishes no per-character rate, so the two cannot be compared per character without a speaking-rate assumption.
Read the Murf card as a monthly voice budget and the WellSaid card as a delivery budget. A Murf hour is spent when the words are rendered, while a WellSaid minute is spent when the finished audio is downloaded, so a rough draft costs Murf and not WellSaid.

Murf pros and cons
What we like
- Creator Lite includes unlimited downloads and commercial rights, so a paid voiceover ships on the cheapest paid card.
- Yearly billing gives 24 hours on Creator Lite for $228, about $0.16 a generated minute against $0.24 monthly.
- Unused free minutes carry into a paid plan as additional minutes, so the 10-minute trial is not wasted.
What could be better
- Every self-serve card is one user, so five people need five cards, or $145 a month on Creator Lite monthly.
- Subscriptions are not refundable, and a cancelled plan keeps access only until the end of the billing cycle.
- The free plan has no downloads and no commercial rights, so it cannot hold a client file.
Who Murf is for
Buy Creator Lite yearly if you are one person who voices a few short commercial pieces a month. The yearly pool of 24 hours covers a steady routine, and it is the cheapest paid card that lets you download and use the file.
Stay monthly if you need to leave at short notice, because Murf lets you cancel at any time and keeps access until the cycle ends.
Buy Business Plus only when one person renders about 20 hours a month, or when the work is replacing voices in existing video, because the AI voice changer sits on Business Plus. Its 200 projects also matter for a library of client pieces.
Skip Murf when a team shares one voice library, because the self-serve cards are one user each and five seats multiply the price by five. Skip it when an app needs speech on demand, because the studio cards carry no API. Skip it when the invoice should count finished minutes rather than generated hours, which is WellSaid's model. Speechify's API suits developers who want a free allowance of 500,000 characters a month.
A talking-head video is a different buy: the HeyGen review covers avatars and AI dubbing tools covers translation. For a voice-first comparison, the ElevenLabs review is the other half of the decision.

The bottom line
Murf is the right buy in 2026 when one person needs a commercial voiceover on a steady monthly schedule and the work is narration rather than an app.
Choose Creator Lite yearly for a light routine, and Business Plus when the hours and the projects both run high. Its cost per generated minute falls from about $0.24 on Creator Lite monthly to about $0.11 on Business Plus yearly, which is the number to set against any other studio.
Choose WellSaid when a team should pay for the finished minutes it exports and the seat count is small. Choose Speechify when code produces the speech and the job is measured in characters.
Choose Murf when one person owns the voice from script to export.
