TL;DR

Krea is worth paying for if you want many image and video models behind one balance, and only on the Pro plan or above. The free plan gives 100 compute units a day but no commercial license. Basic is $9 a month, or $5.25 a month billed yearly, for 5,000 units, and Pro is $35 a month, or $21 billed yearly, for 20,000 units, read on Krea's pricing page on 20 October 2026.

The catch is that units do not roll over on Basic, Pro or Max, and Basic leaves out most video models and the App Builder. For a single image style, Midjourney, Ideogram or Adobe Firefly can cost less, and Magnific keeps its credits valid for a year.

Krea sells access to a crowd of models rather than one house look. Its plans meter every image, video, upscale and LoRA run in compute units, and the card for each plan translates those units into generations of named partner models. That makes Krea easy to price per month and hard to price per picture, which is the question this review answers.

This review is for a buyer deciding between Krea's Free, Basic, Pro and Max plans, or between Krea and a single-model tool. It covers what each plan costs, what the units buy, what the free plan withholds, the commercial terms, and where Krea is the wrong pick. Every figure comes from Krea's pricing page and its FAQ, read on October 18, 2026. We ran no image tests of our own, so output quality is left to your own trial on the free plan.

What is Krea AI?

Krea is a browser-based AI creative suite at krea.ai. It generates images, video and 3D objects, upscales images and video, edits images and trains custom LoRA models on your own characters, styles or products. It runs its own model, Krea 3, beside partner models such as Nano Banana 2 for images and Seedance 2.0, Veo3, Sora and Kling for video.

Toolradar data: Toolradar tracks 171 AI image generation tools as of October 17, 2026, and 73% of them, 125 tools, offer a free tier. Source: Toolradar's AI image generation statistics. A free plan is the norm in this category, so Krea's daily units are a trial allowance, not a reason to pick it.

Beyond the web app, Krea lists plugins for Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Blender and ChatGPT, plus an API and an MCP server. Its directory record is Krea AI on Toolradar.

How Krea AI works

Every action draws on a compute unit balance. The plan cards state what a month of units buys: Pro's 20,000 units are listed as 450 Nano Banana 2 generations or about 65 Seedance 2.5 videos (read 19 October 2026). Those equivalents mean a Nano Banana 2 image costs roughly 44 units, our division of Krea's own figures, so the free plan's 100 daily units cover about two such images a day.

The free allowance refills daily. Once it runs out you wait for the next refill or upgrade, according to Krea's FAQ. Paid units arrive monthly on Basic, Pro and Max and expire at the end of each billing cycle, so a quiet month is money lost. Only Business and Enterprise roll unused units over.

Model choice decides the bill. A cheap image model and a premium video model draw from the same balance at very different rates, which is why Krea's cards quote both an image count and a video count for every plan.

Krea AI key features

Many models behind one balanceEssential
Krea 3, Nano Banana 2 and video models including Veo3, Sora and Kling run from one compute unit balance. Pro and Max include all video models, while Basic gets a selected set, so a video buyer should start at Pro.
Real-time generation
The free plan includes full access to Krea's real-time models, which generate images as you type or draw. It is the fastest way to explore composition before you spend paid units on a final render.
LoRA training on your own images
Free, Basic and Pro train LoRA models on up to 50 images, and Max raises that to 2,000 images. A brand that wants a consistent character or product look needs at least the 50-image tier and a commercial license.
Upscaling up to 22K
Paid plans include paid upscalers, Topaz Standard among them, with outputs up to 22K. The free plan stops at 2K with basic upscaling models, which rules it out for print work.
Nodes and App Builder
Krea Nodes, a visual workflow editor, starts on Basic. The App Builder, which turns a workflow into a reusable app, and the Nodes Agent start on Pro, so repeatable production pipelines need the higher plan.

Krea AI pricing

Krea's pricing page lists four individual plans and two team plans, read on October 18, 2026. Free is $0 with 100 compute units a day and no credit card. Basic, the entry paid plan, buys 5,000 units a month. Pro is $35 a month, or $21 a month billed yearly, for 20,000 units. Max is $105 a month, or $63 a month billed yearly, at 60,000 units, with a selector from 40k to 100k units. Business is $200 a month, or $160 billed yearly, for 80k units shared by up to 50 members, and Enterprise is a custom quote.

Per unit, yearly billing is the real discount. At monthly rates, Basic works out to $1.80 per 1,000 units and Pro and Max to $1.75. On yearly billing, Pro and Max fall to $1.05 per 1,000 units. That is our arithmetic on Krea's printed prices, and it means Max buys no cheaper units than Pro, only more of them plus unlimited relaxed generations.

Per image, Pro's monthly price over its 450 Nano Banana 2 generations is about 8 cents an image, and under 5 cents on yearly billing. Twelve months of Pro at the yearly rate is $252. For comparison, Midjourney's plan page lists Standard at $288 a year with unlimited Relax image generations, Ideogram's plan table lists Plus at $180 a year for 2,400 credits a month, and Adobe's Firefly plans page lists Standard at $9.99 a month with unlimited standard image generations.

Who Krea AI is for

Krea fits a creator or small studio that switches between image models, video models and upscaling in one week and wants one bill for all of it. It also fits a marketing team on Business, since the flat price covers up to 50 members sharing one pool of units. Video work belongs on Pro or Max, because Basic leaves most video models out.

Skip Krea if you want one house style at a flat price. Midjourney's Standard plan and Firefly's paid plans include unlimited image generation of a kind Krea reserves for Max, and our Midjourney review and Midjourney pricing breakdown cover that route. If the words inside the image must be right, read the Ideogram review first. The bottom line

Krea is the pick when you need many models and video in one place, and Pro is the plan that delivers it. Basic is a cheap way to get a commercial license on images, but it leaves out most video models and the App Builder. Pay yearly if you will use the units every month, since yearly billing is where the per-unit discount sits, and remember that nothing rolls over on the individual plans.

Skip it if you want unlimited images in one style at a flat price, where Midjourney Standard or a Firefly paid plan is simpler, or if your images are mostly text, where Ideogram is built for the job. Methodology: this review quotes only figures read on Krea's pricing page, its plan cards and FAQ, the Midjourney, Ideogram and Adobe plan pages linked above, and Freepik's pricing page, now branded Magnific, on October 18, 2026, plus the Toolradar category count. Per-unit and per-image costs are our division of those printed prices. Toolradar also keeps tool pages for Midjourney, Ideogram and Adobe Firefly and Freepik. Frequently asked questions

How much does Krea AI cost in 2026?

Krea's pricing page lists Free at $0 with 100 compute units a day, Basic at $9 a month or $5.25 a month billed yearly for 5,000 units, Pro at $35 a month or $21 billed yearly for 20,000 units, and Max at $105 a month or $63 billed yearly for 60,000 units. Business is $200 a month for 80k units shared by up to 50 members. Prices were read on October 18, 2026, and the Basic yearly rate rechecked on 20 October 2026.

Is Krea AI free?

Yes, with limits. The free plan gives 100 compute units a day with no credit card, real-time models and upscaling to 2K. It does not include a commercial license, all image models, Krea Nodes or the paid upscalers, so it is a trial for personal exploration rather than a plan for client work.

What are Krea compute units?

Compute units are the balance every Krea generation draws on, and the cost depends on the model. Krea's Pro card lists 20,000 units as 450 Nano Banana 2 generations or about 65 Seedance 2.5 videos. On Basic, Pro and Max the units arrive monthly and do not roll over, while Business and Enterprise allow rollover.

Can I use Krea images commercially?

On a paid plan, yes. Krea's FAQ says Basic, Pro, Max, Business and Enterprise include a commercial license covering images, videos and other generated assets for marketing, products and client work. The free plan does not list a commercial license, so anything made for a client should be generated on Basic or above.

Is Krea better than Midjourney?

It depends on the job. Krea gives one balance across many image and video models, while Midjourney gives one style with unlimited Relax image generations from its Standard plan at $30 a month. A buyer who mostly makes images in one look gets more volume from Midjourney; a buyer who mixes video, upscaling and several models gets more range from Krea Pro.
