TL;DR

Pika is worth it in 2026 for creators who want many video and image models under one bill, and a weak buy for a single clip. Starter is $10 a month ($8 billed yearly) for 900 credits, Creator is $35 a month for 3,150 credits and the first commercial license, and Fancy runs from $95 a month.

Every plan prices a credit at the same rate, about 1.1 cents on monthly billing, so a bigger plan buys a license, parallel jobs and a priority queue, not cheaper video. The Free plan now carries 0 monthly credits and works only with paid top-ups.

Toolradar user ratingPika Labs averages 1.8 out of 5 across 70 public ratings, #46 of 48 animation tools with 20+ reviews, October 2026.

Pika started as a text-to-video model and is now a studio that sells one credit pool across its own Pika 2.5 model and third-party ones such as Seedance 2.5, Wan 3.0, Nano Banana 2 and GPT Image 2.5. That changes the buying question: you are paying for access to a menu of models, and the model you pick sets the cost of each clip.

AIpresso data: Toolradar tracks 148 AI video generation tools as of October 18, 2026, and 72% of them are free, freemium or open source. The median cheapest paid plan is $19.95 a month across the 44 that publish one, on Toolradar's AI video ranking, so Starter sits well below the middle and Creator well above it.

The same directory aggregates a 1.8 out of 5 public user rating for Pika Labs across 70 ratings, which ranks #46 of 48 animation tools with 20 or more reviews, as of October 2026. Read it as a reason to start on monthly billing before committing to a yearly plan, not as a verdict on output quality.

What is Pika?

Pika is an AI video, image and audio studio from Pika Labs, sold on a monthly credit plan. Its own flagship model, Pika 2.5, makes five-second clips from a prompt, five or ten seconds from a photo, and transitions across two to five keyframes, at 720p or 1080p.

The studio also routes credits to outside models, lists speech and music tools, and offers an API through the separate Pika API Club, which has a $10 monthly membership fee. Plan credits work inside Pika Create on pika.art; top-up credits cannot be used with the API, MCP or iOS app.

How Pika works

Each plan refreshes a monthly credit pool, and each generation spends a fixed number of credits that depends on the model, resolution and length. Pika's own table prices a 5-second 720p Seedance 2.5 clip at 122 credits, a 5-second 720p Wan 3.0 clip at 33 credits, and one 1K image at 8 credits on Nano Banana 2 or 2 credits on GPT Image 2.5.

Plan credits refresh each billing period and do not roll over. Top-up credits, sold at 60 credits per $1, carry over and expire 365 days after purchase, so a quiet month burns plan credits but not top-ups.

Plans also cap parallel jobs: Starter runs 2 videos at once, Creator 8 and Fancy unlimited, which matters more than credits when you batch variations.

Pika key features

One credit pool for many modelsEssential
Pika 2.5, Seedance 2.5, Wan 3.0, MiniMax H3 and image models such as Nano Banana 2 all draw from the same credits, so one subscription covers tests on several engines.
Flat credit price across plansEssential
Starter, Creator and Fancy all work out to about 1.1 cents a credit on monthly billing and about 0.89 cents yearly. Upgrading buys features, not a discount on each clip.
Commercial license from CreatorEssential
Free and Starter carry no commercial license, so client or ad work starts at Creator.
No watermark on any plan
Pika's plan table shows no watermark on Free, Starter, Creator and Fancy, so a test clip can be shown without a branded overlay.
Top-up credit packs
Packs run from 1,500 credits for $25 to 66,000 credits for $1,000, and they last 365 days, which suits uneven months.

Pika pricing

Methodology: Plan prices, credits, credit costs per model and the FAQ terms were checked on October 18, 2026, on Pika's pricing page; Pika 2.5 clip lengths come from Pika's Pika 2.5 page and the API membership from the Pika API Club page. Competitor prices come from Runway's pricing page, Luma's plans page, Kling's API video rates and Google AI subscriptions, read the same day. AIpresso did not generate clips for this review.

What a credit costs: dividing each plan price by its credits gives about $0.0111 a credit on monthly Starter, Creator and Fancy alike, and about $0.0089 on yearly billing. Top-ups at 60 credits per $1 cost about $0.0167 a credit, 50% more than plan credits.

What a 5-second 720p clip costs: Seedance 2.5 at 122 credits is about $1.36 of a monthly plan, $1.08 on yearly billing, or $2.03 in top-up credits. Wan 3.0 at 33 credits is about $0.37 of a monthly plan. For comparison, 5 seconds of Kling 3.0 at 720p without audio is $0.42 on Kling's API, and a 5-second Ray3.2 clip at 720p is 100 credits, or $0.30 of a Luma Plus month. These are our multiplications of published rates, assuming you keep every take.

Pika pros and cons

What we like

  • Starter, Creator and Fancy all price a credit at about 1.1 cents monthly, so no plan overcharges per clip.
  • No watermark on any plan, Free included, per Pika's plan table.
  • Top-up credits last 365 days, so a busy month can borrow without a plan change.

What could be better

  • Free has 0 monthly credits and works only with paid top-ups.
  • Starter has no commercial license, so client work needs Creator or above.
  • Payments are non-refundable, and plan credits do not roll over.

Who Pika is for

Pika fits a creator or small studio that wants to try several video and image models on one bill, posts every week, and can use most of a monthly pool. Creator is the realistic plan for anyone who invoices a client, because it is the first with a commercial license.

Skip Pika for one clip a month, since the Free plan has no credits and top-ups cost 50% more per credit than a plan. Skip it too if you only want one model: Kling's API or a Luma plan prices a single engine directly, with no menu you do not use.

The bottom line

Buy Pika Creator if you publish client video every week and want several models on one bill. At $35 a month it is the first plan with a commercial license, and because every plan prices a credit at the same rate, you upgrade for the license, the 8 parallel videos and later the priority queue, not for cheaper clips.

Skip Pika for occasional work or a single model. The Free plan holds no credits, top-ups cost half as much again per credit, and Kling's API or Luma Plus price one engine more directly. Check the model's credit cost before each batch, because Seedance 2.5 spends nearly four times the credits of Wan 3.0 for the same 5 seconds.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pika worth it in 2026?

Yes for a creator who will spend a monthly pool across several models and needs the Creator license for client work. No for one clip a month: the Free plan has 0 monthly credits, and top-up credits cost about 50% more per credit than plan credits.

How much does Pika cost?

Starter is $10 a month or $8 billed yearly for 900 credits, Creator is $35 a month or $28 yearly for 3,150 credits, and Fancy runs from $95 to $880 a month, or $76 to $704 yearly, from 8,550 credits. Free is $0 with no monthly credits. Prices were checked on Pika's pricing page on October 18, 2026.

Does Pika have a free plan?

Yes, but the Free plan now includes 0 credits a month and works with top-up packs only, starting at 1,500 credits for $25. It includes all models and no watermark, but no commercial license.

How many videos do Pika credits make?

It depends on the model. Pika's table puts a 5-second 720p Seedance 2.5 clip at 122 credits, about 7 clips on Starter's 900 credits, and a 5-second 720p Wan 3.0 clip at 33 credits, about 27 clips. Creator's 3,150 credits make about 25 and 95 of those clips.

Can I use Pika videos commercially?

Only from Creator up. Pika's plan table lists no commercial license on Free or Starter, and a license on Creator, Fancy and Enterprise. Creator is $28 a month on yearly billing, the cheaper way to hold that license.

Do Pika credits roll over?

Plan credits refresh each billing period and do not roll over. Top-up credits carry over and expire 365 days after purchase. Top-ups work only in Pika Create on pika.art, not with the API, MCP or iOS app.
